Yes, and it would have garnered massive coverage in Muslim countries. They would hold this example up as proof of the west's hatred of Muslims
And listening to American conservatives howling about Muslims would make me think that there is a fair amount of hatred in the West directed toward Muslims.

Yes, of course. If he said to the policeman "Are you Muslim?!?" and then "Every single war in history was caused by Muslims", he would receive just as much, and perhaps more criticism. It would also be unacceptable.
However, I get the feeling that if a non-Christian celebrity had of implied something like that about Christianity, there would be less of a reaction due to political correctness and Western social guilt.
