Not being American, I don't vote for presidents. However I have never been aware of or have I cared about the religious preference or lack of preference of any of the politicians I have voted for. The one politician that made a point of touting his religion that I remember was Stockwell Day, and he very quickly became a figure of fun, not for his religion but for his general incompetence. Unfortunately he is now a minister in the current Harper government, and I still find it very hard to take him seriously.
It depends on his views on current issues.
As for seperation of church and state, that's great and I'm all for it. But the scary thing is that all it takes is someone in office to do away with things like 10 commandment monuments and crosses on public property, and before we know it all the Christmas light displays and trees outside of city halls and court houses are gone. And that's just a small example of what could happen.
I'm atheist myself, but I'm not afraid to admit that the Christians have the majority in this country. There's other people living here besides me and if, in a country where religious diversity is the norm, I find myself offended by such, I need to pack up and find a new place to live.

Nope. Most atheists are extremely intolerant of those who are practicing a religion.
Specifically most of them think that they have a right to freedom FROM religion.

Religion should be kept out of politics--that's why we have seperation of church and state---otherwise (in some ways) we are no better than places like Iran or even Saudi (I know they don't elect a president).
^ Well Mithrandir, Islam IS a political movement, as well as a cultish ideology. Islam is a facist and totalitarian concept.
Christianity was a cult, and look how they turned out. Whatever the name of the god, you can always see misery following in tow.
