What it's done, and in some cases what it's perceived to have done.
Who's behavior, Islam's?
It's not the behavior of the US, its merely their existance as a successful infidel superpower that the Islamic terrorists hate. Muslims believe THEY follow a superior way of life in following Islam, the superior faith with the "one true god". And since it was the goal of Muhammad to spread Islam over the entire world, by force if necessary, then it is only obvious that Islamists would feel threatened by any force they believe to be the greatest threat to their Allah's goal. And of course, Mulsims must not accept any other way of life could possibly be better than theirs, thus facing the realization and fear they have made a mistake in following their beloved Muhammad. So this fear inspires them to destroy the freedoms of democracy at any cost, making them feel better about themselves.
Terrorists are motivated and inspired by a doctrine that instills in them the hate and the will to kill. However you cannot hate so intensely unless you feel victimized. Yes the terrorists feel victimized. They are filled with venom. That is why they are willing to die. Part of that victimization is justified, but the great part of that is induced in them by the teachings of the Quran. Quran convinces the Muslims that THEY are the victims, and exhorts them to lash out at the non Muslims who they believe victimize them, fight against them and murder them, and it promises that despite their apparent weakness Allah will render them victorious. Armed with this intense hate and this unwavering conviction, the believers become mindless machines ready to kill and ready to die. They are "The Borg" in real life. Islam must dominate and control all. The biggest obstacle to this achievment and neverending ambition is also the biggest enemy to Islam, thus the most hated.
Because of American foreign policy. Favoritism towards Israel.
Because of Muhammad's doctrine of hate. Intolerance and hate of Jews and all other infidels.

For Islam to work, they must keep things in the 7th.century.
USA is far too "modern" and free for their liking.

The US is despised for many reasons, but I suspect its wholsesale and utterly partisan support of Israel might be the clincher for many Muslims.
And perhaps there's also the fact that it keeps interfering (in a most bungling and heavy-handed fashion) in the internal affairs of other sovereign states.
Or perhaps it's the jingoistic howls of its citizens, grandly boasting about their "freedom" whilst their leaders - aristocrats in all but name - strip the populace of its liberties and send their children off to fight for the profits of the big corporations (largely owned by those same aristocrats).
With a feudal system like that, one has to wonder who's living in the 7th century after all, lol!

As Islam is True, all the infidels must be Convinced or Slaughtered, opposition causes fury and violence, anger, hatred..!! The Final War is at hand, the Truth of Mohammed will prevail! Or not.
