WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON THE HARSH MILITARY BOOT CAMP TRAINING TECHNIQUES.

If you have been in the military and gone through training at boot camp your opinion would be valuable here. If you haven't experienced a military boot camp then perhaps you have seen one in film. For example, the movie "Full Metal Jacket", where they actually brought in a real to life drill sergant to play the role of the boot camp instructor, making the character far more realistic. I know I was convinced!

What is your opinion of boot camp training methods? Is the harshness of the screaming, yelling, ridicule and abuse necessary?

It brainwashes soldiers into becoming fearless killers 34%
It helps to create the best trained disciplined soldiers 34%
It's neccessary to making a good reliable soldier 13%
It's unnecessary pschycological abuse 8%
It's mean and it hurts people's feelings 8%
It seperates the men from the boys, that's all 0%
The Physical abuse is unacceptable. 0%

COMMENTS:
I would assume that if you can't handle the "harshness of the screaming, yelling, ridcule, and abuse" (the abuse is psychological rather than physical according to my brother who went through basic training), then you probably wouldn't be able to handle actual combat.

It is designed to develop soldiers that work as a team, that follow orders, that are disciplined, and know the techniques and skills they need to have as a soldier. It isn't about the stereotype.

It isn't torture, and there is no comparision between boot camp and the torture engaged in at a CIA secret prison, if that is what you are getting at.

Nothing wrong with it. Actually our army really isnt even that bad go to russia were they make you randomly balance a glass of water and if you spill it they do some kind of karate on you. From what ive read the armys training has gotten weaker and now overweight people wont be treated any different and the soldiers are aloud extra snack and the drill sergeants dont yell as much. Whats wrong with the training? You cant be kind and nice to the soldiers then put them on a battle field and expect them to live?

Voted : It's neccessary to making a good reliable soldier
You've got to be "programmed", so to speak. The human being tends to think along its own lines, without proper guidance. Doing that in the middle of a firefight is frequently lethal.

Can you imagine taking an 18 year old kid off the streets of America and plopping him down in some war zone without putting him through some form of fierce training? I can't.

I went through it and feel it's not only necessary, but a rite of passage.

The physical abuse is total unacceptable.. There is no reason for it to be done to recruits..But everyone knows its done but no one does anything about it to provent it from being done to the next recruit going in.
