I've always called it the beach, but I have heard a couple people from New Jersey call it the shore. What do you call the resort area along the ocean?

It was the shore when I lived up Nawth.

"Shore" is usually used to refer to the "big" picture or when out to sea coming in.Surf is where the water meets the beach or the actual waves coming in.Coast refers to the linear stretch and the beach is the sandy/rocky area at the point where water meets the sand/rock.
