LEGALIZE HOMOSEXUAL MARRAGES?

[+] serious ballot by Elashia
created Fri Oct 27, 06
The institution is already being destroyed by heterosexuals today, but how a question about the essence of marrage.

Reasons for these marrages basically question the essence of marrage? What is it and why is it restricted to one man and one woman.

I believe that if homosexual want to have a relationship with eachother then let them. But they want the status of being legaly married. This is to get benifits that married couples have, like being able to adopt children and having insurance (for a spouse) and other things in thier name; and also for sentimental reason.

I really dont know if a homosexual couple should adopt a child. Because it is not a traditional family and the child will not have a maternal or paternal figure. But this situation may be better then living in a foster home where you dont have a heathy family relationship. I would lean torwards no, but this is a very argueable subject.

A marrage is for the purpose of creating a family. If not then why get married? Then again we have strayed from good marrages in america with so meny devorces and abusive marrages in america marrage has lost most of its meaning in significance (Brittny spear's 55 hour marrage).
But a good marrage should consist of a father and a mother both commited to eachother. For the purpose of creating a healthy family.
A homosexual marrage can be good but not as good as a heterosexual marrage in its best form. I am not denying that a homosexual couple can raise a child better then some heterosexual couples can, this is true, some heterosexual couples that raise children poorly.

I would like to see the institution of marrage say as only one man and one woman. not a man and a man. or a man and 2 women or a man and a underage girl. In the American culture the instition of marrage is under attack. And i believe it will paresh to an America that stands for nothing. that has become an athistic country of ignorent people that stand for nothing, afraid to offend someone.

The current culture of America calls for legalization of homosexual marrages.
Should homosexual marrages be allowed?

Yes, they have the right to marry 55%
No they dont have the right to get married 36%
Maybe/ Not sure. 8%

Why do you say marriage is under attack?

Voted : Yes, they have the right to marry
Government should not have the right to define marriage. If two men, three men, or even fifty men and a midget want to sign something they call a marriage contract, the government should have no voice in the matter as long as the contract does not require the violation of anyone's rights.

I'm not a great believer in the sanctity of either church, or state, so I don't personally see why they'd bother. That said, in Canada(I believe US is the same) it makes no finacial sense to get married. You lose money. So if homos are willing to suffer financial loss just for "sentimental" reasons, then I say, "have at'er boys". Why should gays be exempt from the daily suffering and hair-tearing that is marriage?

Marriage isn't under attack. They simply want the same rights as hetero married couples.

Why the Heck not?
(Everyone in the world should really just lighten up and Fing try to get along.)

It would be interesting for those who voted no to explain why non-gay marriages would be "under attack", or why allowing gay marriage is atheistic.

I believe that marriage is under attack, besides me mispelling it the problems it has is as follows.

1st--1970 28% of Marrages ended in Divorce. 1996 40% of Marrages ended in Divorce. (stats off website)
Even if the stitistics arnt exactly right it is obvious that divorces are increasing

2nd-- Definition of marrage being questioned. What is marrage? Who can it be between. And when no one has the balls to say what is should mean, it will loose all significance. Marrage will then mean nothing and then it can happen between animals or groups of people. It will mean nothing

3rd-- Marrage something for fun! Marrage is taken very lightly; e.g. 24 hour wedding chaples where it only takes an hour to get married. Hypocritical vows are taken and 2 infatuated people get married prematurely. Only to get a divorce in 6 months when they get tired of eachother.

I dont think gays will destroy marrage, it already is being destroyed my heterosexuals.

A marriage is for the purpose of creating a family? Nice retro- engineering reasoning. I do not have kids and I do not plan on having kids. Does this mean you believe my marriage should be nullified? If not, why the double standard ... unless your stated reason is a rationale to cover a the real bias?

If, as your comment implies, you don't believe gay marriage has any impact on the institution of marriage, then why did you bring it up in the ballot text?

IMO, you are probably deeply biased against homosexual unions but have no defense of that bias beyond personal dislike.

Fortunately, that isn't usually a legal basis for law in this country. Or, it shouldn't be.

Well what is the purpose of a marrage how would you define it? Depending on how you define marrage I may agree that homosexuals have the right to marry. Whats your definition?

And I know that my defense isnt incredibly strong. But a week defense does not make me biast against homosexuals or thier unions, I work at a mall with an obvious male homosexual and I have great respect for him.

My argument is based on tradition and the purpose for the institution for marrage. Why dont you try arguing your point more instead of just saying that I am bias?

No your marrage shouldent be nullified. You dont have to have kids but I believe that the purpose of marrage is to create a family and stay with your spouse untill death.
