COMMENTS:
Voted : Yes that is a good idea
Because I do often wonder who voted what, especially when I can't puzzle out how they might have leaned from the tenor of their comments.
Bollocks, If I wanted you to know how I voted I'd tell you. If I don't, it means I'd like you to mind your own business. :o)

I voted No, it's a terrible idea if you must know.

I think the vote should remain secret unless the person wants you to know.
I voted no too
Two points here. 1) Taking away peoples anonimity when voting may skew the results, as people vote how they think they SHOULD, rather than vote for what they actually believe. For nstance, if you made a poll asking people whether they had ever stuck a finger up their bum whilst masturbating, you can bet your ass you would get a lot less yes votes if people had to reveal their identity. 2) A plus point to this idea would be that poeple wouldnt be able to vote multiple times in an attempt to fix the result. Though the logging off IP address's and 24 hour voting should stop this anyway. There is also the idea that people should be able to defend their views and beliefs. Overall though, the negative factors of this idea far outweigh the positive.
All that is needed is a little check box: "check this box if you wish to have your vote displayed with your comment."
We'll forever have to wonder who all those people are that vote for strange things without saying why.
voting should be anonymous. most people know when dolts vote for the most absurd choice they're doing it to be -- well, dolts.
Voted : No, that is a terrible idea
here's my official vote. though terrible is not the word i'd use. i think it's a good idea overall, but would be more of a problem than not.
if you don't want it to show, you should not comment when voting. you can comment later, after you vote. I should make that clearer.

I can appreciate the need for anonymity. But ballots with realistic results are pretty rare. So right now the whole 'ballot' aspect of this site is almost meaningless, if it were simply asking for comments that'd be one thing, but since we're voting there ought to be some acocuntability. For instance on ballot #104157 the 'killing gays is ok' option is winning, on ballot #103962 70% voted that it was unfair and for a man to be punished for cutting his daughters clit off with a pair of scissors, and one a ballot that has since disappeared the option 'kill all the jews' was recieving something like 80% of the vote. I sincerely hope these don't accurately reflect the views of users on here.
THe fact is ballot results on here are meaningless. Anyone care to dispute this? No? Good, so if we're going to have a site dedicated only to comments we should. But if we're going to have that insists on a ballot question being asked there ought to be a little bit of accountability.
Perhaps this could be an option presented when making ballots? The same way you can choose to let others allow comments or not.
No
Voted : No, that is a terrible idea
No.
I would advise not adding sarcastic choices like you sometimes do. Make someone add them. Of course on that ballot smoothdiamond is probably stacking the results.
Fiddle, if someone else posts a sarcastic comment then I know one person who voted that way, but what about the other 19 users who vote for that choice? The sad truth is there are some users on here, cranky first and foremost, who delight in producing all sorts of aliases to vote on ballots to skew the results. Can anyone honestly say the ballot results on here reflect the opinion of well, anything but a few persistent nuts?
And I doubt people would really be detered from voting for an unpopular choice they actually believed in if it were no longer a secret how they voted. Unless you were really stupid and told people your actual name then this entire site is anonymous. I'm not really herzog, not a one of you could point me out if you saw me in public, why would I, or anyone, care if people saw a roster of how users vote?
Voted : Yes that is a good idea
A brilliant idea. Firstly, creating a new ballot choice CANNOT be done with anonymity. So how is this idea any different. Secondly, if ballot choices are top be anonymous- then shouldn't it follow also that ballot comments should also be allowed to be anonymous? Or do you think that forcing people to attach their username to their comments regulates them from putting up nonsense, etc? Think about why ballot comments are NOT allowed to be anonymous... there are practical reasons. Now, explain to me how this is any different from what is being proposed now. Why are people not allowed to be anonymous when creating new ballot choices, and when making comments? Its the same principle- practicality- they are less likely to contribute nonsense if their username is attached.
Voted : No, that is a terrible idea
If a person wants to be associated with a vote (or, at least, doesn't mind) then he/she will have the option. If a perxon desires anonimity ... this forum benefits from allowing that option.
I voted 'yes'.
I see cranky figured out that this idea would adversely affect him and did a ballot likening this to demanding social security numbers and fingerprints. That's right folks, asking to reveal a fictitious internet name that bears no resemblence to your actual identity is the same as asking for your social security number and fingerprints. Cranky believes this, or more likely realized that if this ever came into being he would no longer be able to spam my ballots with his multiple aliases over and over again. But I have a hard time hating him. In fact, anyone who feels the need to validate their existence by trying to 'win' an internet ballot by creating multiple aliases and voting every 24 hours is a pitiful creature, more deserving of sympathy than hate. I can't even imagine what an existence he must have that he feels these actions are necessary. So crank, if it makes you feel better you can continue to spam my ballots, but no comments. If that's what you need to do to get through the day then go for it, but I'd recommend trying to find a healthier way to get attention.
