When you get stopped be polite and when you are asked ,"Do you know why I stopped you?" simply say no officer. "Do you know hw fast you were going?" Say, "No officer" Don't incriminate yourself--don't even say "sorry officer." Accept the ticket--you win in court, not the highway. You have not incrimminated yourself, you have not pissed off the officer, now go to court.

Once the court date is set, postpone. Postpone it until you are forced to go. Dress professionally. Next, pray that the cop doesn't show. If the cop shows, state your case and don't interrupt the judge.

Voted : Claim poverty : offer to stay in jail
I wondered about this before.

a small highway town, with a justice of the peace, probably don't have the $$ to spend on jail facilities.

What if you claim poverty, and tell them you don't have the $$? They would have to put you in jail - if they do not have the facilities, wouldn't they ssuspend the sentence?

Or make *sure* that the officer doesn't show : call him at home and tell them they won the publisher's clearinghouse sweepstakes, and ask him to stay home on your court date.

pox on those bastards.. why don't they go and catch some real criminals? :)

Be honest with the cops and pay it. Sometimes just being honest will get you out of it.

^there is nothing honest about a small town leeching off the passerby with speedtraps.

I just checked the ticket. this town doesn't even have a courthouse, it has a post office box!

so according to the ticket, if I want to contest this ticket, I have to show up in front of the post office box?

more I think about it, more I am tempted to call their bluff.

plus I will make sure that their scam is exposed on the web, let's see how much tourist dollars they lose after being badmouthed on the web....

I think I will require an interpreter too. Let's see how much that costs them.

I'm the Queen of speeding tickets, so I've tried it all.
Depending on where you live, certain (unethical) attorney's will charge you a minimum of $200 to make a ticket go away.
I've seen where they now have the defensive driving course on CD that you can do from home instead of taking an 8 hour class. I think you can take this class once a year, but only after you've received a ticket.
I tried fighting a ticket once and lost, so then I asked for no points on my record if I paid the ticket.
Whatever you do, don't hire an attorney to try to fight this, it's a waste of money. An attorney can't do anymore for a ticket than you can do for yourself.

I've seen where some of these small towns will even arrest you on the spot for speeding and hold you until you pay the ticket.

I must really like you guys to admit that I've done that to get out of a ticket. It works! I even got my ex out of a ticket that way once.

What can I say? The cop found me attractive & sometimes a girl just has to use what you have.

Voted : pay the ticket
If you were speeding, be honest and pay it. All it will hurt is the ego and the wallet.

I see nothing wrong with small towns setting up speed traps. And since speed limits are in place, I see nothing dishonest about it. In my hometown, their speedtraps have not only provided an income by ticketing people who disprespect their laws and roads, but have greatly reduced the number of traffic accidents caused by people speeding through, running redlights, and hutting/killing people.

Voted : pay the ticket
I avoid court where possible. I have afriend who decided to fight a ticket, was completely in the right, and ended up doing a week in slam for contempt.

Exotique, one piece of advice- *never* try that south of the Mason-Dixon...
by Truthseeker013 on Sat Nov 04, 06 5:02pm [+]

Truth, I never say anything cheeky or suggestive. I just look big eyed and bewildered then ask, "Do you HAVE to give me a ticket?"

Usually they say "No, I guess not. But promise me you'll try to be more careful."

Of course I do promise and I do try to be careful. I haven't gotten stopped now for a couple of years.
