I see. The price goes up - it's the Republicans it does down it's the Republicans.

I've asked this question before. What exactly are the Republicans doing to affect these changes?
by ClosetIguana on Mon Nov 06, 06 9:41am [+]

Looks like Bush and Abdullah played "spin" the bottle, to me.

....Looking for facts, accusations are beneath the left.

CI: Details of the specific example aside -- Sadly, that may well be the case.

If a political Party acts reprehensibly for long enough, one shouldn't be shocked and dismayed when people come to expect that behaviour.

Rather than sitting back and trying to blame everyone else for that mindset, I suggest Republicans would be better served by examining their own behaviour and making the necessary corrections to forfend such assumptions -- merited or not -- in the future.
by Cathexis on Mon Nov 06, 06 9:47am [+]

So, you want a copy of the text message from Bush to Abdullah requesting help in fixing oil prices? The one that started out: "My darling Abdullah...?"

I'm sure all the proof you need is on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
by cranky on Mon Nov 06, 06 9:47am [+]

To summarize: If/when they stop being willing to 'do anything to win,' people will eventually stop making that assumption.

So what are we left with? No proof or your accusations.Got it you're The Republican Party requested OPEC to reduce production causing prices to INCREASE because they wanted....what? Where are you going with this?

That last sentence wasn't very clear:

by ClosetIguana on Mon Nov 06, 06 9:57am [+]

Bigfoot was responsible for the production cut. He knows that if prices go up high enough, the only ones who will be able to afford it then are the rich reptilian Masons. Then everyone else will have no choice but to quit driving. This will result in more gas for Bigfoot and the Masons to use for their personal use, which includes (but is not limited to) private trips to Alpha Centauri, helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon, chauffeured limousine rides to Dallas Cowboy home games, and road trips to Tijuana. Because eveybody knows that the best Margaritas you can get are in Mexico. And Bigfoot really likes his Margaritas.

It has been shown that Bush's approval ratings (and by extension, the Republicans) tend to track the price of gasoline in the US. Bush's approval ratings were seriously tanking when gas was going toward $3.00 per gallon, although his beloved Big Oil companies were having historic profits, as were members of OPEC. Suddenly, in the months before a pivotal election, the price of gas in the U.S. drops by a third due to oversupply in the market, benefitting Bush and the Republicans in the 2006 elections. What a coincidence! Then, the instant the elections are over - what a coincidence! - OPEC (i.e. Bush's loverboy, King Abdullah) decides that production is way too high, even though most other experts agree that the oversupply situation is close to being done. In other words, Ka-Ching! Ka-Ching! It's payday, again, for Bush, Cheney, Abdullah, OPEC and Big Oil again, now that the election is over. And the American people get to pay for it.

I can't give you absolute proof that a pig farm stinks. But I'll bet if I walk by there, I'll end up holding my nose.
by cranky on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:03am [+]

"Then, the instant the elections are over."

Th election is over? Could you tell me the results?
by ClosetIguana on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:07am [+]

opec may set the oil prices, but the big oil companies set the gas prices, don't the? i mean if exxon lowers its prices on gasoline, they may make less money in the short term. who ever said this was about lower oil prices by opec? it's about lower prices at the pump.
by Kev24 on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:15am [+]

Voted : Bigfoot and the reptilian aliens are responsible
IC_zzz Take an economics class. Please.

As I have said EVERY time this ballot is REPEATED, gas prices went up prior to the 2004 election. That was arguably more important to Bush/Cheney than this one.

This ballot isn't really being answered. Can't you guys admit for once that not every conspiracy that you've created may not be true? Is it that difficult?
by ClosetIguana on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:33am [+]

OK, every conspiracy may not be true.

But that truth is the same for the conspiracies cooked up by the conservatives.
by cranky on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:44am [+]

Thank you!
by ClosetIguana on Mon Nov 06, 06 10:46am [+]

conspiracy is an over-used word in my opinion. look at fiddle saying 'take a economics class.' you don't need to to know that markets have been manipulated for 50 - 60 years or more to influence elections. its not a conspiracy, its a fact. its the old "a chicken in every pot" approach. conspiracy? no. does it happen? of course it does. are the republicans behind it? probably not. would exxon mobile, the largest oil company in the world, love to see republicans still in power? of course. relax people.

closet, i asked if you were canadian becuase you say "we' quite a bit. also because i'm impressed with how passionate you are about our elctions.

Rational thought and politics...nope, no corresponding tangents whatsoever.
by Truthseeker013 on Mon Nov 06, 06 11:33am [+]

Heh. The prices go up, its the republicans. The prices go down, it's the republicans. The prices stay the same, you guessed it, the republicans trying to lull you in to a false sense of security.

Didn't we have a user from eastern europe with a quote something like "it doesn't matter who is to blame, it's always the jews".

The left has gone over the edge. When no matter what happens the blame is always the same then there is a problem.
by herzog on Mon Nov 06, 06 3:53pm [+]

Blaming the convenient fluctuation of oil prices on Republicans is like blaming the convenient unveiling of the Foley scandal on Democrats. Neither makes much sense, nor is either very useful. It only serves to make those doing the blaming look that much worse.
