Voted : Shoes stay on.
But I do have three throw rugs set up, so that shoes can be scuffed as clean as possible before actually entering high-traffic areas. I don't much like the idea of removing shoes indoors, because of the risk of colds, particularly in winter.

In the Winter it's socks. In the Summer it's either barefoot or thong sandals.
