And it's cases like this that I think support keeping the death penalty around. This was a particularly horrendous crime, against a helpless child, her child in fact. I think this goes beyond run of the mill murders and should get more than life in prison.

I stand by my belief that the death penalty is state sponsored murder, but I do think the guilty party should spend the rest of her life in prison.
If she committed the crime she is accused of, then no, of course the death penalty is not appropriate. She would obviously be mentally ill to do such a terrible thing, and as such should spend a good proportion of her life in a mental asylum.
I really dont understand how Republicans justify killing anyone, regardless of their crime.
It still premeditated murder to execute someone, whether with the governments permission or without.

It has not been proven that this mother is guilty of this crime. It has been reported that the father and two other chidren were present in the house during the time of the murder. If she is guilty of this crime, she should spend the rest of her days in prison just like Smith and Yates (I guess it is easier for some people to believe these two mothers were (during the commission of the crimes)/are mentally unstable then it is to believe this mother could possibly be innocent).

She probably has a severe mental or psychophysiological disorder which may have combined with her fervent adherence to religion to cause her to kill her own baby. What possible motive could any sane person have to kill a baby?
Despite the horrific nature of the crime, I stand by my "5 strikes and you're out" conviction. If it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that an individual has killed 5 or more people, then that individual has forfeited their right to life. The number can be amended under special circumstances including--but not exclusive to--the nature of the deaths. The number cannot be lower than 3.

The Death Penalty is a barbaric medieval form of justice.
I am not familiar with the case, so I cannot tell what frame of mind the woman was if she did it.
I just cannot condone state sponsored murder, it is utterly repugnant to me, even if she is guilty as charged, it is the thin edge of the wedge.
Far too many mentally ill and people with the mental age of children are already put to death in the US, but noone can yet tell me, why life imprisonment is not a better option.

I don't see any remorse for a person who kills their own child. There is a simular situation in the south right now with a 5 year old boy... I can't begin to try to put myself in the poor childs place and feeling so scared and helpless, being killed by the person/s you trusted and brought you into this world.
I hope none of you ever have to live to see your child being tortured, murdered or molested... cause I will tell you what, your mind will change REAL quick on the death penalty.

People who say executions are state sanctioned murder, would you also say that traffic fines are state sanctioned theft? And imprisonment is state sanctioned kidnapping? Or would you agree there are some things that the state can do that would be illegal for an individual?
And couldn't all murder (not self-defense) be considered the act of a mentally ill person? Would a normal person kill someone for their shoes? Or for 15 bucks at a convienence store? Of course not. And yet this happens all the time (well, too often anyway).
Should these people be given "treatement" until a state appointed shrink who couldn't make it in private practice decides they're ok? Or at least, until they need to free up a few more rooms.

The fact that the victim in this case is Black and possibly the perpetrator is Black is not the point.

And they got off, as this bitch likely will. But if you'll note, I called for yates' execution as well. But does the fact that one white chick got away with it prove that racism is a factor?
