Yes. A girl I went to highschool with died after being struck about 10 years ago. She had went outside to take clothes off of a clothes line because it had just started to sprinkle. She was struck and died on the spot.

True, skylab. I've been sitting inside before and have seen lightning strike 20 and 30 feet outside the window. If at all possible, I don't go out in the thunderstorms here unless I absolutely have to.

The utility mast on my house was hit when my son and I were standing in the garage about ten feet away from it.
Loud as a sumbitch and it burned out two of my modems.
