I watch a documentary recently were a guy was discussing a strange psychological phenomena. He said that if you tell a guy that his SUV is destroying the ozone layer he is more likely to get a bigger SUV rather than a hybrid car. This may sound like simple hubris, but he explained that if a person feels that a situation is hopeless he/she is more likely to contribute to the destructive action than to fight it.
Have you ever done this? Have you ever done anything stupid out of fear?

I don't feel much fear, although fear is an interesting emotion. I remember a guy shaking with fear at the sight of a friendly dog. A girl who was used to dogs thought the same dog was cute.
