By the legal definition of race, *I'm* not black. According to U.S. law, a person's race is defined by the race of that person's father, and that of their father, and so on. My father's father was a Welshman, therefore I'm Welsh and considered White. Last time I put that on an application, I got stares aplenty.
My thoughts exactly Kev, what the hell is this journalist talking about?Apparently according to some liberals unless you are a descendant of West African slaves borought to American in chains you are not culturally black.
Someone has been in graduate school studying social constructs, etc waaaaay too long.
I'm waiting for them to say "He's so well spoken" a-la Colin Powell. You have the racial steroetype double-whammy, Truthseker. Tom (and his) Jones and Long Dong Silver.
Apparently, according to "one" person, he doesn't fit the restricted definition of blackness that person proposes. Not all those racist liberal intellectuals at Salon. So why does this put such a bee up your ass?

Well, he ain't white.
I am disgusted by this article cranky because it serves no other purpose but to further divide African Americans from the rest of the nation.

Truthseeker..."Last time I put that on an application". Do American applications ask what your race is?

Politically and culturally black? I'd like to hear him explain exactly what that means.
Voted : He is the decider and no one else...
I would venture to say that Mr. Obama will be the decider regarding this matter...Yes, his physical make up would suggest that he is a man of color...However, that could encompass many other racial additives, as we all know, he is of mixed racial background, as we all are...

I don't know. If you rub his skin will his blacness come off? Of course he's black. I hope that no one makes his race and issue in this election.
What I do think is that if he loses the Rev's Al & Jesse will say its because America is racist and if he wins, they'll call him an Uncle Tom sell out.

I've always thought "black" basically meant "of African descent," no matter where you are in the world.

I never heard that before.

That was my immediate impression the first time I saw him.
Obama is running for the president of the United States of America. Our energy should be spent on the issues that concern the American people and what contributes to their quality of living. This color issue is a gross distraction to the progress of this country and we should be using quality time and effort working togething for the common good of all the American People.

If Obama thinks he is not, he is deluding himself.
Voted : He sho' ain't White!
He is what they used to call that mixture, "a mulatto". On the old census records, people were classified as "white, colored, or black".. Obama, being mixed, would have been "colored". Though at a later date "colored" came to mean any negro or black, and was a "polite" term for all negroes! Either Hillary or Obama would certainly be 'a novelty', but what we need is someone who's Really Qualified to be our next president, not some 'novelty'! Be they Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever, please make a sensible, rational choice for President! (AND someday, I'd like to see a Native American as Presedent!)

Did you see clips of him dancing on Ellen? That's a white boy!

Obama is an Arab. He has an Arabic name (Barack Hussein Obama) because he's an Arab.
Please type "Obama, the Arab-American liar" into a Google searcher.
Technically, he's Hawaiian. :) (He was born in Hawaii......................)
Wait though, isn't his mom white?
