I think Cranky's got it backwards. It's the Liberals, not the Conservative, who "euthanize" healthy babies, and are chomping at the bit to euthanize the sick and the elderly.

I had to have a cat euthanized last year because of old age and illness.
The other two were dogs and I had to do it myself with a shot to the head. One got tore up really bad by a feral pig and one was left in a vegetative state after he picked up distemper from a racoon and was misdiagnosed by a veterinarian. He was on medication prior and was appeared to be well. Then I woke up one morning and saw him laying down next to the house, cold. I went and dug the hole, went to get the dog, and discovered he was still breathing. So I put him in the hole, shot him, and covered him up.

I know what you mean though. I felt the same when I had to do what I did. But both dogs were beyond help and what I did was the only humane thing left to do. I didn't see any sense in putting the first dog through anymore suffering by driving him 40 miles with his guts hanging out and yelping in pain so a vet could do it. The second dog I'm sure never knew what hit him.
