$500 for bloodwork? I think not.

But have seen plenty of people who have because of the cost, preventive medicine is so important, you have no idea how many people come through the hospital that I work at, who could have been spared so much grief if their medical problems were found earlier, in many cases their life itself could have been saved. Usually people without insurance end up in the Emergency Room, often too late for anything to be done. Very disheartening that this has to happen in this country.
^That's not right. If you don't have insurance you basically can't seek medical attention.
^ that pretty much sums it up. If you do go in for a check-up (etc.), and then can't pay, you are subject to collection agencies, which can destroy your credit at the very least.

I've been lucky so far...
Nationalized health care would reduce emergency room care and save lives and money IF run competently.
There is now a group of American corporate executives calling for health care reform and universal health care. They realize how much health care, and sick employees, are costing them. Does this show how much damage Bush and his gang of slime have done to this country? We now have millionaire corporate executives starting to call for national health care and a group of Evangelical Christian leaders calling for action on global warming. Amazing.

How many stories do you want, lady, and in what particular order? My most vivid one was about five years ago, when I was wandering around my job with a 102F temp, trying to avoid seeming ll because I had a chance of becoming a full-time employee before the check-up procedure, thanks to some generous bureaucratic snafu. But I couldn't hold out, swooned during the wrong meeting and had to go in to see the company doc. One x-ray, and I was screwed.
Don't know if that was exactly on-point to your question. Apologies if it wasn't.
