COMMENTS:
"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religion than it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." Albert Einstein I guess his life was one big waste, eh?
He also said: "I do not think that it is necessarily the case that science and religion are natural opposites. In fact, I think that there is a very close connection between the two. Further, I think that science without religion is lame and, conversely, that religion without science is blind. Both are important and should work hand-in-hand." For my personal view on this, an Einstien quote again works well: "...the scientist is possessed by the sense of universal causation. The future, to him, is every whit as necessary and determined as the past. There is nothing divine about morality, it is a purely human affair. His religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection."
Not all atheists discount an afterlife. ;) Many of the eastern spiritual leaders are/were atheist and I hardly think they wasted their life either. We could learn alot from them in fact.
Himself True and that fascination with the world around us can make for a very fulfilling life (without the need of gods or god).

Perhaps atheists have more fun than, for example, people who spend most of their existence crawling to some supreme being in the desperate hope that it exists?
^ Very true.
My comment was at Closet'.
"I know that when I deal with all of the stupid, mess up things in world appropriately that in the end Im getting something out of it" Thats the point right there, you claim to "know" something that, in reality, you havent the slightest clue about just like the rest of us Its called self delusion, and it may be comforting, but I prefer the cold truth of reality to some sort of delusional retreat, half way to insanity, within which to cocoon myself from the problems in my life.

I often wonder what the point to my life is, and sometimes my not knowing can get me down a little, sure. Im agnostic so I believe we probably do rot in the ground after death, but if you could offer me one iota of proof that God exists (something religion has yet to do) I would be happy to listen, and even believe. We all have problems, and we all have doubts and uncertainties about the "point" to our lives, and these things drive us to IMPROVE our life and SEARCH for the answers, something that Religion doesnt do. Through adversity we find our greatest strengths, not by believing in fairy tales and happy endings.
I have answered your question, now answer one of mine. How do you feel knowing that your sole purpose on this Earth is as a plaything, to amuse some omniscient being, who spices things up occasionally by throwing in a few tornados and earthquakes? Voted : I'll take genuine meaning any day over religous lies.
Of course there is meaning to life, but an atheist is one of the few people that doesn't pretend it has something to do with an invisible Alpha male in the sky. Atheist will continue to face the bigger questions in life without fear, while the theists cry themselves to sleep craving that comfortible ignorance that makes their life so much easier.
I still dont understand atheism but oh well. they have there own points in living I guess. maybe the true meaning of life is to find somthing to die for...

My point is living a beautiful life now, it can be joyous.. no pretentions, no counting on the good to come later or on anyone to tell me how to get to it. I know right from wrong and clean from nasty. Life on the beautiful Earth can be amazing :D This is Heaven if you want it to be.. then you die and your soul's sucked back into the soup, I don't need any more than that, I think it's nice.

The point to life is not preparing for death.
Do you start to get the impression that its YOU who should be questioning the point of life, CrysTalis? Listen to your peers.
Voted : Nature
All normal people have a natural drive to pass on their genes. god is just an imaginary friend for adults that often helps those who are more weak minded to accomplish this goal.
Hmmm, I wonder where this natural drive comes from...
^ask Charles Darwin.
Doctordraw I do question the point in life. everyday. people who belive in god question and so do atheist even though they pretend that they dont care. its not enough to just enjoy something for a short time. I us to be on a thin line between atheism and beliving in god. I knew that if I was going to belive in god complete somthing EXTREMELY OUT OF THE ORDENARY WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN TO ME. and it did..
What happened?
how can you think that earth is heaven? even if god is imagenary. can you blame the people for making god up? a heaven where cannibalism, racism, sexism, killers, murders, communist, facist, devil workshipers, dictators, ignorant people, hungry people, greedy people, STUPID PEOPLE go? this is far from heaven.it more close to hell. not even the very strong can live long on earth.
let me be more specific. How Long Can Atheist people Live on earh without killing themselves? even if you make your own point to life its still as meaningless as religon would be in your mind. maybe even more. if your make a loved one your reason to live. he or she will still die. then you will have nothing to live for. same goes for everything else. the things you do on earth will soon fade away.
Atleast the idea of God is forever. while the ideas of Athiest and evolutionist are constantly changing. I do not fully belive in god. but the idea of god atleast makes more sense then the idea of..uhm..us evolving from monkeys? tell me..what happen before the BIG BANG?
CrysTalis "Athiest and evolutionist are constantly changing." Religion changes too once it gets for information. There was a time when Christians believed the sun revolved around the earth. Science showed that the bible was incorrect. Science doesn't profess to have all the answers unlike religion. It does however try and answers those questions with logic. What thing that happen to you that was "extremely out of the ordinary"?
