AMERICANS: DO YOU VIEW A DIVIDED GOVERNMENT AS A GOOD THING?

Obviously a great many factors come in to play, but in general do you view a divided government as beneficial because it tends to reduce corruption and force compromise/bi-partisan cooperation, or as a bad thing because it stifles efficiency and leads to nothing but conflicts which prevents them from doing more meaningful work?

And in addition, if you prefer a divided government, how would you divide it?

And this isn't about the current government, so try to avoid the "bush is hitler" references that we all love, think in general terms.

It's better than any one party in control. This way they do less. Whatever they do, it's usually for the worse.

It depends on a number of factors. If the president is overly liberal or conservative a divided government can moderate their impulses. The same could be true of congress.

I didn't ... until I saw the destructiveness of 1-party rule from 2000 through 2006.

Which party controls which branch ... doesn't matter, as long a sthey don't control all. I like Dem legislators, I have to admit ... Republicans just can't seem to get the hang of being a responsible Majority party.
