MONARCHY IN USA?

[+] ballot by LCD
ACTIVE Jan 30,2007 - Wed Jan 30, 08
supposedly, we live in democracy, not monarchy.

Ruling monarch doesn't even exist outside North Korea (Kim Il Sung died, and kim Jong Il, his son, took over as leader)

I thought we were better than them.

Then why do we keep electing the idiot son of a semi competent former president (CIA goon who stole the presidency for his running mate, Reagan)? Now we are looking at a wife of a former president as a viable candidate???

is this what people need in this country? Can we expect Amy Carter and Jenna Bush in the presidential runnings in the future?

we should never elect family members of former presidents! 11
Dictatorship is not so bad, let's give it a chance! 2

COMMENTS:
that's democracy. they have a right to run and are eligible to do so. our right is to not vote for them. a monarch is usually for life. big difference.

agreed. if people are stupid enough to vote for them, they deserve all they get.MAG_killme

in fact, your first choice is anything but democratic. "never elect family members of former presidents." why not? such a law or rule would be contrary to democracy. _Beelzebubba_BJ

What confuses me, though, is that Bush & Co. continue to try to amass a Monarchy presidency ... even though all signs are that a disgusted public will decisively reject his party and put in 'The Opposition,' in teh next election.

Why does he continue to try to convert this into a 'democracy in name, only,' if he (and his party) are going to lose power?!?

Although it may sound paranoid, I am fearful that they will find ways to either 'not cede power' or 'manipulate/ fix more elections.'

exactly lcd. being a democracy means allowing for stupidity-- a-la' bush the lesser MAG_rofl

Kev & LCD: I disagree that this is merely 'letting people have the right to be stupid.'

Bush & Co. have actively and repeatedly worked to undermine the Constitution, put themselves above the law, and usurp power. Warrantless wiretaps, so-called signing statements, assertions of Unitary Executive power, assertions that 'if the President does it, it is legal,' ... the list goes on -- and most recently, declaring that all Regulatory Agencies be put under political overseers ... to verify that 'policy' is being adhered to.

What is this ... 1950s Soviet Union?!?

Monarchy, dictator ... call it what you like. It isn't democracy.

(Oh, and when leaders are selected only from a set of aristocratic family dynasties ... that is not really a democracy, either. It just has the trappings of one.)

Presidents are not the stuff of Monarchy, dear children.

That's why Monarchy are Monarchy
and Prezidents are the stuff of old movie actors, Texas Trash like Geo. Dubya, etc.

ANYone can be Prez.
NOT anyone can be Monarchy!
It's usually a DNA thing, sorreee!

A bit of an overstatement LCD since the office of the President has only been held by people of the same family for a few times.Ho chi Clinton might win the next election but not because she is the wife of Bill Clinton but because the GOP is so corrupt and incompetent that the people have no choice but to vote for someone new.

Name recognition may well be more desirable than ability and talent in today's society...getting elected is as simple as seeming to be a familiar commodity to those misguided voters who has a questionable set of criteria in which they base their choice on... movies stars, offspring and wives of former officials has met those requirements...I call it the "Paris Hilton effect"....being noteworthy for all the wrong reasons...
