Considering that Iran is believed to have nuclear missiles that can reach France I'd say this was a gaffe(not the first one comming out of his mouth I believe). He's a pillock though.

Neither Pakistan or India should have been allowed to have them either. Extremist Muslim Governments opposing the US or Israel, at the very least, should not be allowed the means to deliver them (I.E. Missiles). If Iran has nuclear warheads and means to deliver them, It almost gaurentees the destruction of the Israeli State and our troups in Iraq.
Of course Chiroc has little to worry about since they have little assets in the region.
Chirac is under the assumption that Iran only wants nuclear weapons as a defensive tool, making it less likely for foreign countries to attack it. I understand Chirac's train of though, but I disagree with it. There is too much wishful thinking and assumption making alone to conclude that Iran only wants nuclear weapons as defensive tool.

Now that's it's clearly that Iran will build nuclear weapons, and soon thanks to the UN, and will have long range missles to carry them, thanks to North Korea, france has preemptively surrendered and is trying to get in good with the mullahs so that maybe Paris won't be one of their first targets.
France always loses it's spine when dealing with muslims. Or germans, or russians, or chinese, or telemarketers or just about anything really.

I see little to none of any French assets in the region for Chirac to concern himself with.
