COMMENTS:
it's about time. it's just prolonging and accentuating the difference between people. How about polycultural history month, and we can celebrate the human race?

Hopefully one day it'll just be February.
What herzog said
I vote for it just being February like Herzog said
One month that celebrates black history and some white people can't get over it.Affirmative Action is prevented intelligent white people from getting into college and this is what you people are complaining about?LOL our priorities are in the right order it seems.
yeah, herzog, it's still Feburary. Tell you what, let's make a White History month, does that make you feel better.

Since black history month celebrates the story of a people who came to this Country enslaved and considered less than human by some (maybe many) and not as immigrants, I doubt if everybody else will be rolled into that short month...those who came here, was already here, legally or illegally or those who snuck in...they will probably get another month that's longer...(since all the rest of them are...)
*see ballot #91136 it lost the comments back when there was a crash of the website...
aya, I recall Cathexis saying once, in response to that, "Don't Whites already have the *other* eleven months?"
Voted : Everyone should be able to have a moment of celebration of self, thats what makes us all unique...

Herzog is not going to be happy until February is not only included with the other 11 months, but also, HIS I do not understand why some people are having a cow over people of color having the shortest month of the year to celebrate a wonderful culture...the SHORTEST month mind you... Its ok for others to celebrate their culture or their culture's achievements/accomplishment and with someone suggesting that they share their celebration time... I'm not pointing the finger at anyone here, however, its the shortest month of the year for goodness sakes, after the celebration ends, those who may question or oppose that the month of February allows for Blacks to celebrate their history (oh, did I mention that it is celebrated during the shortest month of the year?) may go back to your wonder bread boring lives...in the meantime, lets dancing! put on your dancing shoes and dance! Oh, I can feel the love out there...

Sounds good to me. Hispanic history month, or Native American history month, or Indian history month, or Japanese history month, or any number of other minorities' history month. It doesn't need to be minorities either. Irish-American history month. German-American history month. Norwegian-American history month. There aren't enough *days* in the year to value the contributions that both minorities and majorities have made to this country. Methinks we should be thankful for all those individuals of all races all over the globe who work and have worked not out of a want for fame or recognition, but out of a genuine want to do good.
"Tell you what, let's make a White History month, does that make you feel better" No. I'm opposed to any race-based initiatives such as this. How about we kill everyone of European descent, would that make you feel better? "Don't Whites already have the *other* eleven months?" I don't recall them ever making a point of celebrating only white heritage for an entire month, let alone 11. At least not this side of the 1860s.
^Ah, yes. The understated racism of neocon herzog. Good job, Aya, Truth and BBC.
No. I'm opposed to any race-based initiatives such as this. How about we kill everyone of European descent, would that make you feel better? WE can't do that to the oppressed White man, can we?

^and since you complain more than anyone else about political correctness hurts Whites, how about we just kill off minorities to make you feel better?

Dat's boo-shit! Let dem muhfuggaz get they own munf.
"WE can't do that to the oppressed White man, can we?" Genocide against any group should be discouraged, regardless of historical grudges, wouldn't you say? "and since you complain more than anyone else about political correctness hurts Whites, how about we just kill off minorities to make you feel better?" Why? Minorities aren't the problem, the notion that they have to be seperated in to minority groups, labeled, and held up on a pedastle is the problem. Perhaps we treat everyone the same from now, no special programs, you're just a human. How does that sound to you aya? "But you know what he meant, right? It's one month out of the year to celebrate. They don't deserve one month to celebrate their history?" So we're to exclude them the rest of the months and not teach any black history for 11 months out of the year? How about we teach kids history, as it actually happened, fairly and without bias every month they're in school? Why segregate it? Explain to me how encouraging division among americans in fact produces unity.

Oh brother Herzog, get a grip, get a life, get real, get a job, get laid and please, get out of our cyberface with your constant whinning (and lying) about how great Blacks have it in good ole America... Enough is enough for crying out loud, it has to be quite difficult to think and believe as you do, where do you get all that negative energy? Sheesssh...
P.S. American History has NEVER been taught exactly how each event unfolded...To suggest the contrary would be another LIE added to the many others... Also, much of your Black History is taught in Historically Black Colleges/Universities Herzog...If you don't believe that, go read up on the subject... America is already divided into minority groups Herzog, I thought that was THE one thing you loved about America... Lastly, you get to do for all your cyberbuddies a favor...Sing us all that favorite song that you are so good at, this time you will do so to music...and a 1, and a 2, and a 3 three... ...Cry Me A RIVEEERRRR...Oh I can feel the love folks!...
uhm wasnt black history month created by a black man? in the 19th century? when black people were told that there were nothing and that they will never be wanted by soceity back then? maybe thats the reason black history month is here. maybe that black man wanted to make sure that his people will know what great things they done. instead of a race full of self-haters. but hey you dont have to celebrate black history month. I mean nobody is forcing you too..
Oh look, babs is pro-segregation . Anything to keep "those people" separated from "normal people" eh babs? I'd prefer that we as a nation recognize all citizens as equal.
And I was kind of expecting an answer to that question: how does segregating people create unity?
Voted : no it doesnt
BBC, Cranky, and aya, you are being stupid. Herzog has laid it out for you: How does segregation create unity? Black History month exacerbates the problem. Don't let your delusional hatred of Herzog blind you to common sense.
"how does segregating people create unity?" How are recognizing and valuing people's differences segregation?
himself: how is setting people to the side, "segregated" from everyone else based entirely on their race not segregation? Recognizing individuals special talents is fine, but isolating an entire group of people based entirely on their race is not.
So then it'd be wrong to have an Irish-American history month? Or a Japanese-American history month? By honoring any group of people that has overcome adversity (which, I think, is what black history month does) we recognize not just the progress of the group, but the progress of America as a whole. We've come a long way since the days of state-supported segregation in America. By having things like black history month, I think we as Americans celebrate the fact that we've passed those dark times.
uhm dont they irish paride, and poertu rican day parades? blacks arent the only ones..whites and other races do this too
"So then it'd be wrong to have an Irish-American history month? Or a Japanese-American history month?" Yes. " By honoring any group of people that has overcome adversity (which, I think, is what black history month does) we recognize not just the progress of the group, but the progress of America as a whole. We've come a long way since the days of state-supported segregation in America. By having things like black history month, I think we as Americans celebrate the fact that we've passed those dark times." Passed those dark times, and entered new ones. The problem is many liberals view blacks as a sort of zoo exhibit. They put them on display, list what they believe to be interesting characteristics, clap whenever they do a simple trick that wouldn't receive any attention if we did it, and make excuses whenever they maul some kid (just an animal, didn't know any better; he was oppressed and couldn't help it). Conservatives and libertarians tend to view blacks as humans who happen to produce more melanin in their skin than average. Individual blacks are applauded when they do something remarkable, but on if it's remarkable for any human (none of this: yay he's the first black guy to use a two for one coupon at mcdonalds), they don't separate blacks from the rest of society and instead lump them in with everyone, and when individuals screw up they alone are held accountable for their actions, no dehumanizing excuses are made.
And as one user already implied, so eloquently, blacks only need this month because they are "insecure". Of course this will prove to be another double standard.
Voted : Everyone should be able to have a moment of celebration of self, thats what makes us all unique...
Oh get a life Herzog, no one gives a rats arse what your racist viewpoint is about Black Hisotry Month...You aren't worth the spit it takes to cuss "And as one user already implied, so eloquently, blacks only need this month because they are "insecure." ~ Herzog What do you and this other person know about what Black people need? You don't have a clue about what you need, which is a boot sticking out of your lil flat girly arse...Only Racists are insecure, you remeber that girl friend
"Oh get a life Herzog, no one gives a rats arse what your racist viewpoint is about Black Hisotry Month...You aren't worth the spit it takes to cuss" Proof my dear, proof. Come up with some and you'll seem less like a creepy stalker. " What do you and this other person know about what Black people need?" I'll let cranky speak for himself on what he believes blacks need. "You don't have a clue about what you need, which is a boot sticking out of your lil flat girly arse...Only Racists are insecure, you remeber that girl friend" Again my stalker, I ask you for proof. And again you will refuse to offer any. Doubt that? Just wait and see.
