ABOUT PROSTITUTION

[+] serious ballot by larrynelmira
ACTIVE Feb 09,2007 - Sat Feb 09, 08
I was watching a report on prostitution in Sweden and there the prostitutes are always considered the victim and the Johns are who law enforcement go after.

I don't see the point of throwing prostitutes in jail? I think would be better to help them to learn a skill, if that’s what they want.
I believe most who become prostitutes do so because of circumstances, I’m sure little girls or boys don’t say they want to be a prostitute when they grow up.

I have a problem with the government telling people what they can do with their own bodies, but that’s another ballot.

Do you think Sweden has the right idea, treat the ladies of the night as the victim and go after the Johns?

Neither the Johns or prostitutes should be arrested 46%
Yes , Sweden has right idea 26%
Nope, Sweden is wrong, lock the prostitutes away 15%
Both the Johns and prostitutes should be arrested 11%

Voted : Neither the Johns or prostitutes should be arrested
Once there was a nun who visited a Catholic school and she approached one of the little girls and said, "hello my dear and what would you like to be when you grow up?"
The little girl replied, "I'd like to be a prostitute."
The nun fell to the floor in a dead faint. A few minutes later when she came to and she said to the girl, "WHAT did you say you wanted to be?"
"I said I want to be a prostitute," the girl replied.
"Oh thank Heavens for that!" the nun said, relieved. "I thought you said you wanted to be a Protestant!'

Ya' know why the Government gets involved in this Issue? Taxes. They just want their Taxes..

Larrynelmira, in Sweden there is an ample and comprehensive social service aimed at helping any prostitute who wants to get out.
They criminalize Johns because they understand prostitution is male violence against women(naive and patronizing perspective methinks). However,
there's another thing to consider here: a lot of those lasses are forced to work as prostitutes. If a guy is having sex with a girl who's being forced, acquiting him would in a way premiate his behaviour. Oh and remember some of the prostitutes are still minor.
I have no problem against a woman who wants to sell her body or a man who spends money to have sex with another adult. But i do think that pimps should always be criminalized as well as men who have sex with minors/trafficked prostitutes.

Are the "johns" meant to run a background check on the girls they intend to have sex with before penetration occurs? Hire a private detective to check out her past, age, state of mind etc?

Prostitution should be better regulated so that women can be safe, tested on a regular basis and mandated as a "profession"... then violence would not really be such an option and women would have a safe place (brothel) to work in.

I have nothing against prostitutes, what I do have a problem with is the violence that surrounds it. Other than that, I agree with Seamus.

It's that way EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD! In any situation between a man and a woman, the man is always portrayed and treated as the bad guy.

Excuses are always made for women, and they are never held accountable for their actions.

Everytime a woman kills or attacks a man or commits a crime, the the excuses start right away. Emotional problems, post partum depression, abused, scared into doing it, distraught over breakup, PMS, just protecting her children, on and on and on.

Yet when a man does the same thing, NO excuses are made and he is protrayed as vicious, cunning, cruel, mean, abusive, vengeful, cold blooded, animal-like, etc.

There is so much bias agains men in any criminal situation.

If a man and a woman commit a crime together, the man is always the mastermind, orchestrator, leader, and the woman is portray as under his control, only participated out of fear for her life, was suckered into it, etc.

In a domestic violence case, the MAN is always considered the aggressor no matter what the evidence is.

And women almost always get lighter sentences the men for the same crime.

Look at all the recent cased of women have sex with minors and school students. None of them ever go to jail, yet men are charged with statuatory rape and sent to prison.

There is no fairness in the justice system when it's man vs woman.

^ I have to agree to some extent, men are inherently assumed to be the guilty party, simply because of their physical strength.
by Doctordraw on Fri Feb 09, 07 9:20am [+]

Doctordraw, how difficult can it be to distinguish a 12 yo girl from a 25 yo woman?
by seamus on Fri Feb 09, 07 9:45am [+]

^not very difficult.

How difficult would it be to distinguish a 14-15-16 year old covered in makeup from an 18 year old though?

And how is a guy supposed to know if a girl is being forced/trafficked or not? Shes hardly going to tell him if he asks, and get a beating from her pimp for it.
by Doctordraw on Fri Feb 09, 07 10:47am [+]

Not difficult??
Regarding your 1st question: as naive as it may sound to you it's possible to distinguish them if the john actually talks to them before sex. Many guys do that.

2nd q: you're wrong, they ask for help many times and are unvariably ignored by the guys who pay to have them. It can't be that hard to notice when a woman is being coerced into having sex. Her body has to responde in an awkward fashion. I'm sure you have seen some of these women on the street, the telly, or whatever and you certanly noticed their apatic zombie-like faces. They are dead inside. Problem is that to some men that makes no difference when they got a boner and 20 quid in their pockets...

Legalize the whole thing, as they do in the Netherlands.
by Truthseeker013 on Fri Feb 09, 07 12:25pm [+]

Seamus

Why the ??? after the "not difficult"? Surely it wouldnt be very difficult to tell a 12 year old and a 25 year old apart? Thats what I was saying, and agreeing with you (I think). Howvere I was also stressing that there are cases when it is almost impossible to tell a girls age, whether they are a prostitue or not. I have spoken to girls in the past in night clubs only to be told they are a mature 16 year old rather than the 18-19 year old I thought, its not black and white.

Secondly, you may be right concerning those girls asking for help, I dont know enough about prostitution to know (do you?), but again, Im saying its not black and white. Unless the girl asks for help, how can the guy know she is being coerced? Im sure lot of girls have awkward body language when they are about to sleep with some fat stranger, they might still want to do it for the money though.

None of these things are black and white enough to formulate laws around.

huh?

so let me get this straight. If those johns don't want to be convicted, they should hang around the street corners and advertise themselves to be prostitutes serving woman, and charge token fees? 005

I think prostitution should be decriminalized. Governments should learn to stay out of the bedroom - if people want to have sex, they will find a way, and no amount of crazy laws would prevent that.

I agree with the violent part some of you mentioned above, but far as what two people do in bed , none of anyone's business, I don't think I would ever want to sell myself, but if someday I decided I did, I should have that option. It's my body isn't it?
by larrynelmira on Fri Feb 09, 07 2:48pm [+]

DoctorDraw, you're right about the ??, i read you previous comment in a haste and misintepreted it.

"I dont know enough about prostitution to know (do you?)"

I've you want to know if i ever had sex with a prostitute the answer is no.
I'm not an expert on the subject, far from it, but i my gf's sister is a sociologist who's working on a thesis about this subject and i was able to pick up some info. They are swedish, btw.
