BUT, it would totally depend on the situation, in that scenario i think the guy was a hero for saving the officer. If i felt safe enough to where i could save him or her without seriously endangering myself than i would. But i have 3 kids so i wouldn't go looking to be a hero...if i got the chance and i felt comfortable with the situation i sure would!

They get paid for the risk, I would leave behind a family with hardley nothing... Nope, sorry my life is important to other people other than myself.
^ plus, why do American's always have to be the big heros? It is so laughable... we protray that image in our movies, books, news, ect. I think the African American guy who saved a guy that had a seizure on the subway was way cooler personally.

I would like to think that I would get involved, but when it really came down to it, I don't know how I would react. Honestly though, if I didn't get involved and saw that person get shot, I think that would probably mess me up.

Probably through sheer force-of-habit.

I think it depends alot on the individual's character. Most criminal types would cheer on the suspect, and conversely, most honest people are likely to stand back and watch, skiddish of personal injury, probably wouldn't get involved. I'm inclined to think I might be of the latter, but my spirit would, at least, want to help the officer (or anyone else for that matter). I feel alot like Socal_Sweetie said.

What socal_sweetie said. Whether they get paid for it or not is mute to me. They've saved my life a time or two, so the least I can do is return the favor if I'm able.

Even if they were doing a good service at the time, pigs do too much harm to society. The people who are tasked with violating our rights deserve nothing but scorn.
^Shame on you for supporting nazis.
Many Law Enforcement personnel are truly unsung heros. They work odd hours including weekends and holidays, take more verbal insults and are the focus of endless jokes. Remember this - they may wear a uniform, but they too possess feelings and have families. would you the individual citizen risk your life on a daily basis for someone you don't know?
