Voted : no
Umm aren't moderates suppose to vote for moderate candidates?I'm confused how or in what way are they the power base for extremist?
Richard Dawkins claims that they are b/c they don't do enough, or something, now I can't remember, fuck. Anyway, Tarek Fatah isn't like that, and he's a moderate.

I think that a good argument can be made for this position. For example, churchill was considered and extremist and Chamberlain a moderate.
Voted : yes
Extremists rarely have the power to take control themselves. They need moderates, just average joes, to either get behind them or at least stay quiet. Germany was never a majority nazi nation. Most were moderate, the nazis were extremists, obviously the moderates had to be persuaded or intimidated to get them to go along with everything. If they had en masse refused then nothing would have come from that crazy Bavarian party. Same with any extremist groups; terrorists would be powerless if the bulk of the moderate muslims actively worked against them.
