SHOULD CONGRESS BE DISBANDED?

[+] serious ballot by herzog
created Sun Feb 11, 07
There were calls for bush to be replaced on the grounds that his approval ratings had dropped to a dismal 35.8% (avg of numerous polls).

Congress' approval ratings for those some poling groups is on average 34.7%.

If bush is to be kicked out for a very low approval rating is it only fair to demand congress likewise be kicked out, en masse, for an even lower rating?

Yes, congress should be dismissed and replaced 42%
No, approval ratings should be for one person, not the entire Congress 33%
No, approval ratings aren't grounds for removal from office 10%
No, approval ratings mean diddle-sh*t, they aren't elections 10%
No, they should just stand up to the president and stand for the Constitution 3%
Absolutely! 0%

Voted : No, approval ratings aren't grounds for removal from office
Let the voters choose for themselves and throw the bums out at election time. The notion that approval ratings should have the force of law behind them and essentially lay the ground for impeachment is ridiculous.

Voted : No, approval ratings aren't grounds for removal from office
No because historically the approval ratings for the Congress has always been low so comparing their rating to that of the Presidency doesn't make any sense.Bush's low rating is significant because the Presidency hasn't seen such low levels of approval since Nixion was in office. As for impeachment perhasp popular sentiment should not be the only thing to consider when drafting articles of impeachment, certainly it mus be proven that the sitting president has done something worth impeaching him over but approval ratings should definately be a leading factor in impeahment.

This is a republican democracy,we elect politicians to represent us and if the people have lost all confidence in these officials than they got to go.If stockholders lost confidence in their CEO they would fire him without a second though;why should government be any different?

BUT I do agree with approval ratings maybe meaning having another election. But of course it would be hard to get an unbiased sample of people to gather approval data from.

-oh of course they would. But at least that would buy us a little time until we have to do it again by giving counties sovereign power and dissolving state government.

huge difference between a congress and the president. the president is supposed to represent us as one figure head -- hence the fact he is the executive branch. he has greater diplomatic powers, etc. low approval ratings have actually been used to recall a member of congress in the past and if anything, the president should be subject to removal if a very vast majority are unhappy with him or her.

Approval ratings basically mean even less than jacksh*t. They are for congress as a whole, not an individual member of congress. People seem real happy with their local or state member of congress. They vote around 98% back into office. That rate is similar to the turnover in the Politburo in the old Soviet Union.
