In January, one of the first things the Democrats did was to introduce legislation to enable government to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. Other countries can do this, which is why the price of their drugs is across-the-board cheaper than ours. (Not because they are inferior, which is what they'd have you believe. Many of these drugs were made in the U.S.)

We pay between 3 and 100 times more for various drugs here than in other countries. Many people, especially the elderly on fixed incomes, simply do not have the money for the medications to keep them alive.

Of course, Big Pharma isn't too nervous about passage of the Democrat's proposed legislation. George W. Bush, our esteemed president, has vowed to veto the bill as soon as it crosses his desk.

Why would he veto this bill? Who does he work for -- the richest industry in the world (pharma), or the American people?

Big government has a nasty habit of screwing up business of the big and small variety.

But it's strange how much big government has spent under Bush and his ilk. Or is that just a big coincidence? Clinton's fault, perhaps??

Bush supports the present law, which forbids the government from using the tools of the free market to get the lowest prices for the American taxpayer.

Clearly, he is siding with the predatory multinational drug companies in their efforts to continue gouging the people of the U.S.

Bush's first loyalty, as always, is to the international rich elite class, not to the American people.

Yes, PP, I do ... many on BOTH sides allowed themselves to be coerced and bribed into signing a bill that they hadn't even read over, a-1000 page tome that they were given approximately two hours to decide on. Two drug lobbyists per Senate and House member. Interesting ratio, no?

The Dems are not innocent in all this, by any means. But at least they are making an effort to rectify it now. That's why checks and balances -- which we haven't had for years in our government -- are so important.

This is another reflection of the underlying belief system of $>people. You can rationalize any patently legal business move no matter how much greed or human suffering it induces because free-market capitalism tends to view morality as delusional.
