ARE EUROPEANS BRAINWASHED?

[+] serious ballot by xxxxxxxx

Do you believe that mainland Europe is incredibly brainwashed when one takes into consideration that almost all of their mainstream media sources explicitly are overwhelmingly in support of European social democracy and welfare state (ie, European established political order), is overwhelmingly supportive of anti-American foreign policies (established academic order), are strongly in favour of the European Union (established economic order), overhwhelmingly left wing (It isn't difficult to flick through European news sources for critiques of pro-free market Berlusconi's scandals, yet will hear little of Chirac's (who is pro-protectionist) equivalent scandals), also considering European media's bias in favour of multiculturalism (rather than a melting pot). Yes, they are very good at criticising established order in the US, but on the other hand the European media is very good at supporting established order and ideology of its own continent. Yes, the US media has its own problems, but it is much more mixed- there is Fox News, CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, CBS, and so on- with variations of arguments and perspectives on many differing and pressing issues. In mainland Europe's mainstream media, in contrast, it would have been difficult to find any stanchly pro-Iraq War (or Afghanistan) arguments, it would be difficult to find perspectives critical of the welfare state, status quo 'social democray' or critical of protectionism, etc.

Gee, Soc, the more I read your ballots, the more pro-American you become. I wonder what kind of message you're trying to spread with these ballots.

It seems so. How many European media sources give statistics that show failures in established order without suggesting the solution is supposedly more socialism? When does it point out the statistics that Americans have higher living standards as discovered by a Scandinavian analysis comparing Europe and the US?

No they just have 'Small-penis' syndrome for letting themselves get involved in two gigantic wars where everybody in Europe ended up on the losing side. and they don't want to admit how stupid they were for letting that happen, so now they want to focus on everybody elses foibles lest the mirror be turned in their direction and people start asking some uncomfortable questions...

Yes they are. But so are we. So are most people in the world. I've read some people on here say stupid things like "Oh, you yanks! You're media is controlled." Stupid comments by stupid people who have no idea what they're talking about. Yes, we have a very free and diverse media. I also used to point out to them that it is virtually impossible for any government to control the media, since there are so many ways to get news: the internet, TV, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines and that we get all foreign news here in the USA too. They wouldn't listen.

Why? Because those people were idiots.

So to answer the question, no, I don't think they're brainwashed any more or less than everyone else.

And, IMO, so is any other group of people who subscribe to mass media manipulation.

A large proportion of ANY country/region is ALWAYS brainwashed. Its necessary to manitnain stability.

Whats more likely to survive, an organism whose cells are pulling in all directions, or ones whose cells pull together? And the fact that we are talking about Europe/ America *insert any other modern society* is that they HAVE survived.

What happens when not enough people are brainwashed? Look at the Roman empire..

This is all very interesting.

When a ballot is made about whether Americans are brainwashed, the focus stays on Americans.

In contrast, when a ballot is made on whether Europeans are brainwashed, the focus shifts to 'yes, but everyone is brainwashed', eh? The two ballots display two differing reactions.

That is responses on this ballot compared to ballot #98547
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Apr 11, 07 11:56am [+]

I knew it; because there was a ballot asking "Are Americans brainwashed?" you think it's ok to post a ballot asking the same about Europeans. It's not right to generalize about Americans, so what makes it write to generalize about Europeans. I know, you think you're making a point. I expected better from you, you used to be more impartial.

I think they're just different. America creates more jobs, but it's hard for many Americans to afford decent health care, and so on.

Everyone can use a good brain washing, I'd think. Brains get dirty pretty fast.

I doubt I could say accurately, but I'd have to say no more brainwashed than Americans or any other people in the world. And I would answer the same way even were "Europe" switched with "America."

Also, that ballot is phrased completely differently than this one. Most of its claims are far-fetched, while yours are well-reasoned. It makes sense that as neutral a ballot as this one could warrant comparisons to other areas, while a ballot as intentionally disruptive as that would focus discussion intensely on the subject in question. The differences between these ballots don't show any of the knee-jerk anti-Americanism that you seem to want, at least to me. :-/

And my responses to USRocks in that ballot were really assholish of me. If you're reading this, I'm sorry lol.
