Just a guess
I don't think that is how it started. The way it was explained to me is that during WWII, the Allies and the Axis powers played Arab nations. For the most part, they ultimately supported the Allies. Then Israel came along. Then, during the Cold War, the USA sort of always chose Israel, so the Arab nations were wooed by the Soviet Union. Then we wooed them. Then they did. Then we screwed them. Then the Soviets did. No wonder they're angry!
^ Oh! Thank God we're all one big Happy Humanity, then! If we were anything less, we'd be at each other's throats!!
Patch, yeah, but a lot also comes from religious tensions too

I don't know. But I think it has more to do with the global super powers meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations than with religion or culture clash.
29% only? I thought it would have been more. I mean the Danish Cartoon controversy for example? This clash of civilisations would occur regardless of foreign policy- it has cultural sensitivities as a major factor indeed.
The phrasing of the question isn't really accurate. A more accurate comparison of 'tensions' would be either between Islam and Christianity or the Middle East and the West. But overall there are certainly religious, cultural, societal, geographic, political--(including policies of Western colonialism or expansionism and globalization), psychological, and above all, historical dimensions to these tensions or conflicts stretching back hundreds upon hundreds of years.
I don't think it is because of religion and culture because the west is always hating on people for who they are!
