SHOULD RJR BE ABLE TO "BRING BACK JOE CAMEL?"

It was a lawsuit that resulted in the July 11, 1997 "decision" of RJ Reynolds to pull all of their "Joe Camel" ads from magazines, billboards, t-shirts, etc. President Clinton was traveling in Europe at the time, and praised RJR's "decision." Al Gore said something like, "it's a good start, but we have a long way to go." The latter comment is reminiscent of an earlier Camel ad, (ie, "I'd walk a mile for a Camel." sidenote--some would walk many miles to see cigarettes banned completely) I really thought it was a sharp advertising tactic. I also thought "Joe" was a "cool character." Seems like the other side of the bench was able to present well the argument that Joe was especially "cool" to the teenage set at the time. Are camels the same without Joe? Should RJR be allowed to "bring back Joe Camel?"

Absolutely, JOE, JOE, BRING BACK JOE! 5

But, RJR was contributing to educational programs at the time encouraging the "under-aged" to not smoke. Wasn't that enough? I just want to hear some discussion about this, that's all. I'm somewhat neutral.

Don't you kind of miss him? He looked cool on the pages of the magazines I read at the time. I was in my late 20's and early 30's and didn't smoke as a result.

First off Contragrain, excellent ballot question 023

It is my understanding that RJR had no other choice but to contribute to educational programs to discourage underaged smoking after targeting millions of youths to suck down its toxic nicotine...I wounder how many of those youths who are now adults, died or presently battling cancer as a result of RJR toxic product...

My original response stands, the health and well being of this nation's future is important then a dress up camel to make appear cool while sucking on a cancer stick with a warning label pasted on a 57 chevy 025

How bout just showing a very sick man and woman so smokers have a much better idea of what the future holds for them if they don't cut back or even better stop smoking or chewing whatever they are using?

Maybe they should have a cute animated character called 'Laryngectomy Man', smoking a cig through the hole in his neck.
