AT WHAT POINT FINANCIALLY SHOULD YOU ASK FOR GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE?

My Dad worked for same company for over twenty years, as part of a deal to stop his employer from moving out of the area, he and fellow workers had to agree to cuts in benefits, one being huge restructure of their health plan, the main concession was to do away with the prescription drug coverage.

After my unfortunate accident , I’m now on a lot of medication, totaling almost 700 dollars a month, because of a college fund my mom and dad both started for me when I was born , we are not eligible for the drug companies assistant programs or any kind of state aid , they said this fund had to be used first, before consideration.

Okay, we’re making it, not going without food or necessities, I know many people are a lot worse off than we are, I’m working, my dad is working and we managing.

I’m not really crying over my situation, I just used as one example for my question here.
I’m asking at what point financially should the government help?

I remember socialsecurity75 saying he had to sell his house and spend his savings in order to pay for his wife’s medical expenses, and he was forced to move in to government assisted housing , because he couldn’t afford to live elsewhere.

In the long run, the government probably paid more to him than if they had helped with his wife’s medical expenses and not forced him to do away with all his assets.

At what point should citizens be able to receive government help?

check out the prescription drug from Canada Larry. I know I got people to save 75% off the top.

there are other companies who will ship meds from countries like india, thailand and africa. As long as they are unexpired, in original packaging, it's the same thing that they sell to us, only 90% off.

In cases of human consideration, IMO, there should *never* be the issue of *asking*. It should just be *given*. But I'm one of those Deity-less socialists I used to decry...

This is what I meant when I said the government should provide "social safety nets", particularly to areas and people affected by outsourcing/competition with foreign economies. I havent actually made my mind up about the whole outsourcing thing now I think about it...
