So what if the geologists and environmentalists are wrong? If we appease them the air gets cleaner. If we don't the air stays dirty (or gets dirtier) and the environment will suffer in other ways anyway. We already know that toxic emmissions are distroying the ozone and that will drastically effect the environment. Who gains anything by trying to stop environmentalist (the sane ones)?
Why do so many people NOT want to stop global warming?

They believe the lies that big corporations with an AGENDA are spewing. And, they may have been influenced by the bestselling fiction writer Michael Crichton, who wrote a book called State of Fear, debunking the 'idea' of global warming. All I have to say about this guy's 'science' is that he writes great novels.

Incidentally, hasn't even King George started to promote a green agenda??

If it causes people to be inconvienced they don't want to bother. Ask yourself when is the last time you hand-washed your clothes, used only green produces products, rode your bike to work etc etc.

There is a natural inverse relationship between the implementation of "green" measures and productivity, or a positive relationship with costs, if you like.

There is very little incentive for most firms to maintain the environment, as their private costs are much lower than the social costs. Its known as the tragedy of the commons. Its a form of market failure, and subsequently an area where the government must play a strong role.

ClosetI, the last time I hand-washed my clothes (tropical vacation) I probably used 10 times more water trying to get the soap out than if I had used an efficient washing machine. And if I road my bike to work, I'd be a sweaty mess by the time I got there, and I don't think my collegues would appreciate that.

Boston.

Using water would increase but the power consumption to wash and dry would decreace. What type of soap were you using? Biking to work...maybe you live too far from work or your work should have facilties to shower (my wife's work does). Failing that take public tansit. What's stopping you from using only green products? Have you looked how some "green" products are packaged? In plastic! Sure every bit helps but let's face it, we're all a bit hypocritical when saying we're going green.
by ClosetIguana on Sat May 12, 07 9:15am [+]

I know I will receive stick for this attitude, but I really dont make much effort to be "green". I try not to let the tap run too long when Im cleaning my teeth, turn lights off when Im not in the room and occasionally recycle stuff etc, but I dont really pay it too much thought.

The reason? Any "green" habits I adopt are a drop in the ocean compared to the pollution created by people driving cars, taking foreign holidays etc. I know a drop in the ocean is better than nothing, but I wont let "going green" take up an undue amount of my time and attention whilst others contribute far more.

You will receive a riding crop for that attitude, KAG. And possibly some hand-cuffs. Get ready for my kind of punishment. wink

Because in my opinion, there are some people who want to pretend they are all calm and rational and that anyone who is concerned about major, global issues are just being hysterical. Some people love to act like they are above all the fray and above all the worry, so they dismiss it, even though deep down, they know it is a crisis. By acting like they are calm and relaxed, they hope to make people think that they are not afraid...even though they really are.

Quite frankly, the only way for things to change is for our greatest natural resource, human greed, to figure out a way to make money off of going green

As with other issues, when a group of jetsetting hypocrites embrace a cause so rabidly as these eco-Mansons have with (what's the P.C. name for it this week?)"Climate Change", I have a hard time jumping on the band wagon.

I still think it's just something cyclical.

That said, I don't need science to tell me that the big oil companies are still clearly some of the most evil motherƒu¢kers that ever existed on the planet.
