It went along fine, everyone happy, but when they announced those who will be going in the military and asked everyone to stand and give them a hand, some hecklers in the audience booed and shouted anti war anti Bush comments.

I’m sure that makes many of you happy, I’m against the war and against Bush myself , but this was our day, not theirs, those going in the service are friends and classmates, none of us liked the heckling and it went on for at least five minutes.

I know, free speech , right to protest, fine lines, and all of that, but we were saddened that our fellow class mates had to hear this on one of the most important days of their lives, and if for no other reason, just for respect to the class of 08, and for those who decided to join the military, it’s their choice, that’s what it’s all about right, free choice? That’s usually all I hear.

You may say they weren’t heckling those who joined the military but the war and the President, but that’s not how it came across, the commencement speaker didn’t give an opinion pro or con other than hoping for these students safe return, there was no mention of the Pres or the war, so it’s not as though the hecklers were giving a counter point.
Protest the war, protest Bush, I don’t care, but at our graduation ceremony, come on, all that did was hurt, and didn’t change any minds.

What do you think?

Don't let them spoil this day for you mate. 4

Firstly, congratulations are in order. Well done mate. Secondly, the people who heckled those joining the military had absolutely no right to do so. There is a time and a place for political protest, and your graduation ceremony was certainly not one of them. I myself am against the Iraq war and have a low regard and no respect for Bush, but I applaud your classmates who are entering the armed forces. The people who heckled your classmates have shown a lack of respect and regard for you and your fellow students. No matter what they were heckling about, it was certainly not the time or place to do it. Do not let it get you down Larry, and one again, congratulations. All the best for the future.

As for those who were stupid enough to heckle, feel free to remind them, should you run across any of them, that those they heckled are going to risk life and limb to secure their right to heckle. If that doesn't shut them up, then tune them out.

Congrats to you! Graduation is an important day and it's sad that others were so inconsiderate and booed those who have chosen to serve in the military.

Hooray for the young people who want to serve their country.
Shame on that jerk Bush and all his politician friends who wrongly, pointlessly endanger them.
