SWITCHING PERSONNEL TO FRONTLINE INFANTRY : IS THIS AN EFFECTIVE USE?

[+] serious ballot by LCD

I heard on CNN this weekend about all the national guardsman who had their job description unceremoniously changed to "FRONTLINE INFANTRY".

these include specialists, technicians, and other people who were promised certain roles when they joined up.

So, you were told that you will be a computer technician, so you sign up for a stint on the national guard, and then you become the cannon fodder and shipped to the russian front?

is this really how we want to use people with skills?

comment on what alternative might be.

COMMENTS:
Having a "military presense" for sake of having one on the ground is just retarded. Why can't they place surveillance systems and take those people out of there, and when after you conduct a sweep, create a safe zone where people can be assured that they won't be bombed every other day?

of course, these rebadged people get about a week of training before they get shipped to the frontline.

Revamp the entire f*cked-up paradigm that has National Guardsmen doing the jobs that Marines and regular Army ought to be doing, for starters. IMO, the Guard should be doing what the Army is supposed to be doing right now, which is training the Iraqi Army for assumption of the defense of Iraq once America effects a full turnover of power to the Iraqi Government- oh, I'm sorry. That'll never be happening, since we're only there for the Texas tea...
