COMMENTS:
I'm sure that if this hospital has this person as a patient that they often have other inmates. This would likely include murderers, rapists, those committed of violent assault and other crimes. Pretty much any type of inmate whose medical problem cannot be dealt with at the prison hospital. Where do you draw the line? Is it ok with this guy but not with the murderer who killed his wife and kids? The robber who violently assaulted an old lady? The drug dealer who has been responsible for getting many hooked on drugs and other crimes (murder, assault) associated with his "business". There's a lot of vicious and despicable criminals. Can I understand their feelings? Sure, anyone can. However, some of their actions are unprofessional and could lead to charges against the staff if medical problems result from their actions or inactions such as not answering the call light or "not being gentle" when drawing blood. They need to remember that they are medical professionals and not the justice system. You can't really pick and choose when you work in medicine. You have to do what the job requires. I know a couple of people who work with morbidly obese (really really obese) who can't move and who need to have tubes inserted (yes, they had to find where to put it in (YUCK, ewww)) so bodily waste can be removed. Pretty disgusting. Do you not treat them professionally because you think its their own fault? Lots of people are at least partially responsible for their medical problems. You cannot pick and choose if you want to keep your job.
I'm not saying I agree with the staff, someday I'll be in their shoes and hope I will be professional no matter what the patient may have done. Also , I should have worded my ballot differently, because SOME of the staff that tend to him have said and done those things, others who haven't made comments about him to me probably treat him as they do all patients.
Often, people will say things they won't act on. Its a release or way of dealing with the stress. When it veers into action, that is where the problem is. It seems like you have the right attitude. Doctors, police officers, and others have to deal with this all of the time. They have to always remain professional no matter what. Imagine what the police have to go through but everyone is counting on them to do their job and not become judge, jury and executioner.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time and I don't just mean jail time.
Voted : unprofessional but understandable behavior
If I worked there and he were a patient, I'd refuse to work near him, even if it cost me my job.
Voted : unprofessional but understandable behavior
If unprofessional behavior was ever understandable, this is it.

What TinCan said. The patient might deseve what ever's comming to him, but he's in a hospital being cared for by professionals and not in a dark alley.
