POLISH TOURIST TASERED TO DEATH IN CANADA

The shocking death of a Polish traveler who was confronted by policemen with stun guns at the Vancouver airport last month has shamed Canada and its federal police, editorials said Friday.

A bystander's video released late Wednesday showed Robert Dziekanski dying after a bizarre series of events that culminated in police approaching him on October 14 and, in less than one minute, zapping him repeatedly with a Taser stun gun.

The 40-year-old immigrant had traveled to Canada to live with his mother.

His videotaped death "is a source of shame and disgrace for Canada and for its national police force," the daily Globe and Mail said in an editorial.

"The killing of Robert Dziekanski will be seen only one way: as a summary execution of an innocent man for the crime of being disoriented, for not understanding, for being a stranger."

"As this video makes its way around the world, Canada's reputation is deservedly tarnished. This is no way to run an airport or a police force," echoed the Montreal Gazette.

The video shows Dziekanski, appearing distraught and frightened, moving around furniture in the airport and at one point throwing a computer off a desk onto the ground.

He is watched by security guards who stand back and can be heard saying, "he's speaking Russian."

Then four officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada's national police force, enter the frame. They walk toward Dziekanski and surround him. He turns away from them, raising his hands with his back to them.

It seems to me, this kind of Police state action is happening all over the wold now. Do you worry that we are entering into an era of opression, repression and eradication of our rights?

I just watched the video. I didn't get a police state vibe. What was wrong with Robert Dziekanski--was he mentlly ill? It seems to me that he brought it upon himself. If he had pulled tht crap at a Mexican Airport he would have been shot--with bullets. It's unfortunate, but I didn't see the polie as the problem.

The really scary part is that a woman approached him during his supposed "incident" and tried to talk him down. THe kid who videoed the incident said that no one in the vicinity felt threatened at any time by him.

It has sickened my city and my country. I's just brutal.

The weren't just the police they were the fed police. I hope these assholes who did it get sent to the stockade for this insane bullshit.
Calling them rent-a-cops would be an insult to rent-a-cops.

I mean Tasering just seems sadistic to me. I know people say it's more humane that using a gun, but even that logic disturbs me. Tasering is a big problem in the United States in my opinion, but I guess it is elsewhere too. I know that when they tasered those two college students (I think one was in Florida and the other in some other state), there was outrage and the Universities involved panicked at the huge outcry. It's bad.
