It's not the tazers, it's the idiot behind the tazer. Couldn't they see him pointing to his ears? If the man was not holding a weapon or doing anything but looking shocked and pointing to his ear than for GODS sake there is no need to tazer him! I blame the cop that tazered not the weapon itself which i'm glad that officer had in his hand instead of a gun, God forbid!

and they are usually exonerated and the taser use is "justified...I guess we have to wait until someone very important gets tasered before any real review of these actions are undertaken...

There was a black woman in my city who was on heavy medication. She had a small knife in her hands. She was standing still in a mall. Her sister was standing next to her. The police came up to the woman who had the knife and ordered her to put it down. Her sister told the police that the woman was on heavy medication for a physiological problem and did not understand their request. While the sister was trying talk the woman into putting the knife down, the police tasered the woman 5 times with no results. The woman did not even flinch. Finally, they shot her dead, as her sister stood next to her.
Within a week, a white man was observed running through a white neighborhood screaming and brandishing a loaded machine gun. Do you think the police tasered this very obviously threatening person? No, they followed him in their car for hours, talking him into putting the gun down.
Yes, I think the police overuse tasering, and I think their use of it is unfairly applied.
