Voted : yes, I can receive text messages
I can receive text messages (I use Virgin Mobile), but I don't give out my number. Only family and three friends have it. It saves from having people call me up while I'm in the middle of the grocery store just to talk about how hot their last date was.
That might be ok, if you don't want any overseas users. Anyway, I don't think many people would want to give out there number to join a site on the web.
Voted : I have a cellphone, but my plan doesn't come with text messages
... and I don't want that feature. We use our cellphones for emergencies only. (Our carrier is Verizon, but we are on a pay-as-you-go plan, the most basic.)

It's all my phone can do, make calls and receive texts.
Sorry, forgot the carrier. Tracfone, aka the Terrorist Special.

My carrier is Verizon, but I would rather not have my cell phone # in the "public domain"...

I've had Bell Atlantic, I mean Verizon Wireless since 1992. I've only used the text message feature once. I still can't see the point to it when you can use the same device as a telephone.

I don't like giving it out though since it's my parents lol. It's Verizon. As for people not doing it I know of a few websites whom use texts to verify a user and the sites have quite a few verified members.
I have Verizon with text, I never use it though because it's a pain in my opinion.
^ I hate texting too. Too much trouble. If only there was a way to save time by talking into the cellphone so that your message could be heard by the other party...
