Science can help us to rationalise and understand the world we live in. Scientific breakthroughs frequently contribute to the betterment of humanity.

Recently, however, science has been turned into a political tool. Today, government officials, media commentators and radical activists wield the authority of science to push through their political and moral agendas. We now live under a tyranny of science, where the evidence-based findings of men in white coats are used to undermine our rights and lower our expectations. How many time do we here the phrase ‘A new government report has used computer models and "scientific scenarios" to show that…’

The experts at using science as a trump card against moral and political arguments are, of course, climate change activists. Radical greens wave banners saying, "The scientists have spoken". There is something disturbingly inhumane in today's tyranny of science. Science is cynically being used to bash people's rights and aspirations, and also to shut down debate - for example, anyone who questions today's green consensus is automatically denounced as an "anti-science" denier. Radical greens are more pious than political, using The Science to lecture the masses about their ‘disgusting behaviour’ and desires in much the same way that Bible bashers once cited "the word of God".

Has science become a tool of the politicians and pressure groups?

IMO, it always has been a tool. In the scientific community, in order to obtain research-grant money, you have to be as much an a$$kisser politically as a decent scientist. It's a major reason why I'm not very active in the field, keeping my endeavours to myself by and large.

(The land of plenty is also a land of intellectual poverty. Our youngsters think US scientists are the only scientists the world has.
US TV news is the only truth in the world.
What/How WE think is all that matters to the world.
After our schools scrap evolution for Intelligent Design they'll start teaching young American that the world is flat and America is the center of it, just how it looks on the Rand McNally.
