Go someplace that is very unlikely to be in contact with radiation and illnesses. In other words get away from all other humans.
Note to self: if water on ground has no life in or by it and it glows at night don't drink it.

That was my primary reason for attending the USNA. I went into subs as my first preference because, in the event of WWIII, all subs will rendezvous in Australia, where the radiation can't get to as quickly.

The first thing I would do is make sure that all the exit hatches on the government's bunkers are permanently sealed shut.
Escape from slowly destructive of radiation-contaminated Earth and will settle on earth-like planet nearby star systems will be the best and safe way to survive and preserve the humanity from the end of human existence. Also, we will bring all plants seeds, floras and animals with us. That will be our space voyage of Noah’s Ark II. If you stay on Earth, then you will be perish without any mercy!
