COMMENTS:
sadly ,many if not most people I know who say they are Christians, don't include Jesus in their Christmas celebrations. It's all about the commercial side, that's what I see happening anyways.
Dunno 'bout you, but I'm in it for the prezzies and beer.

Millions of the Brain-Dead, spending billions of dollars they don't really have in order to attempt to buy that false sense of happiness. You know, being poor suddenly doesn't seem quite so bad...

Voted : Winter festivals existed long before christianity (and will probably continue long after it's gone)
The Romans used to celebrate Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun. IMO it makes more sense to celebrate something tangible such as the days starting to get longer again rather than some religious nonsense.

The ancient winter festivals were held to worship pagan dieties. So these would not appeal to ahteists, either.
You may note from some of my ballots I am not an atheist but I like to "engage" them from time to time to see "what" makes them "tick"...it's not my intention to sway them, anger them, or change their mind(s)...(maybe give them "food" for thought) but I'm not sure they believe they have a "spirit"...
actually fprgetmenot the idea of christmas (as it was) was to use up the remainder of the harvest that couldnt be stored. so people shared what they had in a huge celebratory binge. whether pagans had gods is neither here nor there.
By spirit i mean in terms of the event rather than the physical manifestation of soul...
