COMMENTS:
Personally, I would love to see pedifiles and serial rapists get the death penalty, automatically on their second offense. Ant the penalty should consist of the same treatment(s) their victims suffered

The word "cool" isn't really enough to express my opinion on this matter. We are all aware of the fact that USA has the most brutal penalties for crimes(is one of the only western world countries that uses death sentence), yet it has the highest rate of criminality. Now rationally, does that say anything about the effectiveness of threatning people with this totally inhuman punishment? I think it does. Curing criminality starts from somewhere else.

people like racists, cults, rapists, politicians, should have a death penalty.there is no doubt about it

the death penalty is nothing but "justified murder", and murder is never a good thing. I'm glad Europe & Canada have seen that this horrible act from the middle ages has no effect and is inhumane. Innocent people HAVE been killed in the past, imagine you're going to an electric chair as an innocent person, the thought makes me sick.
so yes, the states should get rid of the death penalty, we live in the year 2004 damn it!

Killing can be easy, particularly if you're motivated by a sense of despair, rage and vengeance. But is it right?Respect for human life,ANY life,is ought to be considered above all arguments in favour of death penalty. It's one of our most important obligations, which comes along with our logic and higher intelligence,to realise and adopt that belief in our everyday life,at least,if we want to consider ourselves more advanced than animals and not just pretend to be civilised only when it's easy. What you need to do,is to focus on how to create the worse possible penalty for people who actually deserve it,without killing them.Or else you're becoming just as bad as they are, therefore, you instantly forfeit your right to judge them.

Man I'm so tire of you smug little liberals whining about the death penalty. How would you feel if it was someone you knew who got murdered by one of these monsters. Why don't you assholes think about the REAL victims for once?
by skynyrdfan on Mon Mar 08, 04 2:25pm [+]

skynyrdfan, I would feel terrible and probably want them dead. That's why the decision should not be left to me, but instead put in the hands of others who aren't clouded by emotional irrationality. Or perhaps you think we should all take the law into our own hands? Great for posturing macho idiots, not so good for an orderly and just society.

The death penalty justifies revenge rather than punishment. The next time your little Billy gets revenge on someone, it's your society's fault not his.

I can't think of anything more punishing for these people than spending 40 years in prison, or even better solitary confinement. Death penalty for them is the easy way out and the victim's family is left to suffer for the rest of their lives, so why not the perpetrator as well?

oops

Solitary confinement is a punishment? The death penalty isn't much of a punishment, either, unless it were more painful.
