trips?

My aunt is doing this with me, I don't always go home on weekends, other than the fact it's a long drive, sometimes I want to do things with my friends.

My aunt tells me I should spend the weekends with my Dad, she goes on and on how he is alone and other things that make me feel like crap.

I'm not an ungrateful son, but my aunt has a way of making me feel like one.

Do you have such people in your family that have a way of making you feel so guilty, how do you deal with them?

I would think your dad could speak for himself?

^ actually I doubt if he would tell me even if he did want me to come home every weekend, but I don't believe he expects that, this is my aunt who I know has his best interest in mind, interfering and thinking she knows best.

Oh yeah.

DO NOT listen to your aunt. Your dad is a grown-up, and he does not want you to sacrifice your life to him in any way, I guarantee it.

Larry, I've been there, done that, and I don't want you to do the same. Please listen to me!

If your aunt is so concerned, why doesn't SHE go keep your dad company?

You have nothing to feel guilty about. From what I've seen on this website, anyone would be proud to call you son.

Larry, sometimes it's hard for a parent to let go of their child. My daughter just moved out in August to go live in an apartment on campus. I miss her a lot!

^^thanks mojo, rws, I don't think it's my dad who has the problem, it's my aunt who has this ability to give us all guilt trips

I ignore them, and go on with what I need to do to make it through life. It (life) is just too damn short to deal with the mental defects of others.

050And, I know how fortunate I am. Recently, I have seen how a Bad Mother can damage her child. The abuse goes on....

larrynelmira, your aunt probably means well and I have no doubt that you spend time with your Dad, but you are entitled to a good life of your choosing.

Hi mom! 041

Sorry I can't drive across town to come unclog your toilet, but I have a family of five to take care of.

But I did catch a little flack when I missed certain family outings (like a reunion)...
