I'm not sure. What I do find to be the height of hypocricy is that in this current debate, it is actually immigrants themselves that are the most vocal on the matter. In other words, people who themselves immigrated here or are the very first generation "Americans," seem to be the most vocal and opinionated. Oddly, some American's believe that unless you are second or third generation American, you have no business voicing your views on immigration. To that regard, I have to admit, I find it to be the height of hypocricy that someone who is just themselves moving to this country, is so vocal and adament about immigration policy. My view is "get settled in first and begin to work, pay taxes and contribute to the nation as a whole before you go dictating immigration policy. I mean doesn't that seem fair to you?

Whether they're given it or not, it won't stem the tide one iota, IMO. As long as there are jobs that We Upstanding Legal Americans won't do (and there are, folks- sign on for coal-mine duty, if you doubt me), the Powers Who Are will make it possible for illegals to get footing here.
^What Truth and Patch said.
The Fourteenth Amendment's definition of citizenship overturned the Dred Scott decision.
