I would say more serious.

depression can trigger/complement host of other illnesses, and I am speaking from my own experiences.

one good thing about it is that it can be overcome - and I don't mean by popping mood enhancers.

geez, I sound like Tom Cruise. :(

I believe it to be true

I believe it can be overcome in many cases lcd, but many times it can't, It's an individual thing, this is a problem I have with mental health, they tend to group everyone together, what works for one works for all and that's not always true, IMO

It's all in the mind, but that makes it hard to get at. And suicidal tendencies are no joke. I know someone like that.

Exercise is supposed to reduce depression and, for some people natural light (or a full spectrum light box) helps as well.

Absolutely. It may be "in the mind" but there is a physical manifestation of the mind called "the body." Specifically, the brain. Even those who believe mental disorders to be just impure thoughts have to acknowledge that the brain is a physical part of the body that can have physical and chemical ailments.

I believe all depression, whether originally caused from an outside situation or from a preexisting chemicial imabalance, is as real as any other disease and as potentially dangerous. It should be treated as seriously as any other disease.

I'm going through a patch of depression right now, and it's taken a serious toll on me physically. I don't perform tasks nearly as well as I normally do. I tire far more easily, it's harder for me to focus on what's directly in front of me. IMO, it can kill you just as quickly as any major disease out there.
