There's a great desire for a new direction at the top.
"see a colored person" After your comments on McCain, would you like to rephrase that? I'd appreciate it if you did.
as a colored person myself, I don't see any offense in my tone or intent. and by the way, I am not running for president.

^ Definitely represents change, he has quite the inspiritional spirit and it appears that change is on its way. However, the superdelegates will have the last say in this matter and Hillary is leading in that category overwhelmingly...Although, Hillary should be concerned just a tad...
Voted : can inspire people to act
I asked my dad how he thought today would play out and he called an easy sweep by Obama, so I guess I'm not surprised at all. He's a black JFK. Charismatic, attractive, powerful speaker, very easy to gravitate towards.
Not running for president doesn't excuse you. The preferred term is "person of color" not "colored person" which is considered pejorative. Its not a term used by people of color to refer to themselves. It is however widely viewed as a highly offensive term for African-Americans. Its not much different than people calling me a "redskin" or "injun". To be honest LCD, its a rather poor attempt on your part to make fun of or mock John McCain. It doesn't elevate you or make the case of his statement being wrong or offensive. Even if you consider him as being wrong in his use of the term "gook" in a very limited way, two wrongs don't make a right. You weren't held prisoner, tortured, etc. You also didn't limit your use of the phrase to a small sub-group of people but basically labeled all "people of color" as being "colored". There's big differences in your use of language and his. I have family members that have been held prisoner. One by the Japanese in WW 2. Its hard to let go of the hatred you have for people who did what they did. He was tortured and barely alive when rescued. Because of this, I can certainly understand McCain's use of the term in reference to the prison guards but not approving of his use of it. "see any offense in tone or intent". Perhaps not, but it isn't up to you alone to decide how hurtful people find your language to be. Just like with McCain. Its like someone telling a racist joke and then saying "I'm not racist, I didn't mean anything by it". It rings hollow. You were apparently attempting to be funny or trying to make a point. You did neither.
"it isn't up to you alone to decide how hurtful people find your language to be" or how selective some people take offense. :) have a nice day FFLSD

I guess I'll have to agree with ThisIsNate
You should really carefully read what I have stated on this ballot AND the one on McCain's statement. Apparently, you have not. LCD, someone coming to this ballot and not familiar with that other ballot about McCain's statement is going to view your use of the term as blatantly racist. You intentionally used it in a provocative manner and provided no context in the ballot description. Perhaps if you created a ballot about hurtful use of language by presidential candidates and others and used that term in a mocking sense, I would have interpreted it differently. However, you did not. You are also apparently attempting to say I approve of his use of the term. I do not. I have stated so. You also have not addressed the issue. I'll go back to what I said. You weren't funny and you failed to make a point in somehow criticizing McCain by engaging in the manner you slam him for. You haven't even given any clarification that anyone can buy. I shouldn't even bring this up. You won't apologize. Its ok for you to do it. I'll get banned if I keep talking about it. Frankly, I'm embarrassed for you.
I apologize that you are taking offense. thank you for being embarassed for me. someone has to. have a nice day FFLSD.
