I'd say around the turn of the 21st century, something went horribly wrong.

It's a symbol if freedom but that may not be the case indefinitely ... to "rival or enemy" Countries it may well be viewed as such...
I think it depends on your point of view. For Americans, it isn't, but for people in the Middle East, such as Iraq and Iran, it may very well be.

In my opinion, no. I think it all depends on who is hiding behind it and trying to advance their questionable agenda. For example, with Bush and Cheney in front of it, then yes. Overall, not. Flags are kind of a joke anyway.
Voted : There are Americans who see it as a symbol of oppression...
It depends upon who you ask of course...There are those Americans who view it as nothing more than oppression across racial lines... For those who do not see it as such perhaps their ancesters as never been treated less than a human being as to why they view ole glory in a perfect light... It is in my opinion that ole glory symbol hypocrisy and brutality, as it relates to American History and present events in this country and abroad... In many Americans' minds, the American flag is no different from the other flag of shame and brutality that flies above the Georgia State Capitol... It cracks me up when I hear politicians and others spew the following request, "God Bless America," yeah, RIGHT...
