THIS COULD SAVE SOME LIVES: LIFESTRAW

[+] serious ballot by UncleRandy
ACTIVE May 14,2008 - Mon Feb 07, 11
Half of the world's poor suffer from waterborne disease, and nearly 6,000 people - mainly children - die each day by consuming unsafe drinking water.

LifeStraw water purifiers have been developed as a practical way of preventing disease and saving lives, as well as achieving the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe water by the year 2015.

LifeStraw Personal and LifeStraw Family are complimentary point-of-use water filters - truly unique offerings from Vestergaard Frandsen that will help people obtain safe drinking water at home and outside.

LifeStraw Family delivers water as per EPA guidelines for microbiological water purifiers

LifeStraw is a very simple and elegant solution to a problem that kills millions of people.

LifeStraw Family will not be sold individually; it will be sold in large quantities to donors who will provide the product to people who need it the most. For customers buying 100-500 units, the cost will be $20 per unit. For customers buying 500-3000 units, the cost will be $17 per unit. And for those buying more than 3000 units, the price will be $15 per unit.

This is GREAT! 4

Now, all we need to do is get it to those who need it. 0
This sounds like a bad idea. 2

In my opinion, all of these factories that are used to produce guns, ammunition and land mines should be converted to produce these things instead. 017

gross.

with that amount of money (fraction of it in fact) they can:

dig a well,
install a pump,
buy a filtration unit,
with enough money to buy meals for the whole village for a month.

and you know that some gov. agency will be buying this thinking that it's a good idea....

instead of little kids sucking on a tube, trying to pull drinking water out of a polluted bucket,

they might teach them how to make an effective filtration unit using activated charcoal and sand layer filtration.

that way they can have free clean water indefinitely, instead of having to spend a month wage to buy filters for that silly straw...

I was hoping for grass that you planted in the water that could clean it.

It might be a good idea for personal or emergency use, but I agree with LCD. Many of the people that actually need it would benefit more from more long term measures.

At fifteen dollars a unit, I think this is purely a money making opportunity.
