Not in most cases.

At first, political correctness was a good idea, but these days it's just gotten ridiculous. All it's accomplished is turning the tables on who is allowed to be racist to who. Words shouldn't be deemed illegal, or be off limits to some but not to others.

Using the word "black" (in most uses) is not racist; it's describing something with a lack of color or light, not using "black" because it's deemed politically incorrect is asinine.

When I see the word, I think of the absence of color, as applied to fabrics and such.

The only song that I can think of that mentions skin colour is Brown Sugar.

Not in my opinion. It's just a descriptive term to me. But I imagine sometime along in the future, some will use it in a derogative context, causing it to works it's way to a negative meaning.
