Hear hear - no one questions the bravery of those men and women in the initial attack, but this torture is unbecoming of a Western (or any other) nation. This is playing into the hands of those who say America is the global terrorist. Let's get this out in the open if we can.

It sticks in my craw when Donald Rumsfeld says that the prisonors should have been treated as stipulated in the Geneva Conventions when the government he is a part of rejected the same Geneva Conventions as they we fighting a war on terrorism and as such it did not apply.

I wonder if the prisoners at Guatameno Bay are treated under these conventions, but its difficult to judge when they are not even allowed legal counsel or have been charged with any crime.

Land of the Free huh?

It takes a very sadistic kind of person to inflict the kinds of torture that would be uses on these prisoners. These kind of sadistic person/s would have a good knowledge of the human mind and body to know what kinds of tortures would extract the desired answers that they are seeking.
Such people should be put down like rabid dogs as they have no respect for any human life and obviously would be completely remorseless(inhuman).
These people who inflict these tortures would go welland beyond the tortures entered into the ballot here and when true justice catches up with them, I will have no pity for them as they should be treated harshly for their inhuman treatment of other human beings

It just really makes me sick to my stomach.Just a year in prison? You gotta be shittng me.
I personally think they should be tortured to death just like they did to Iraqis.I don't even like Arabs. But I really hate the people who bully the others in hopeless situation.

The Geneva Convention 101

Lesson prepared for Steelhamster

Rumsfeld apologized because the United States violated the Geneva Convention against Iraqi POW's. Everyone knows what they did and why it was wrong. You are lobotomized if you think al Qaeda deserves protection under the Geneva Convention. They are not a nation state and have thereby never signed the f***ing document. Their methods violate all rules of war as well as heretofore standards of ethics. Besides executions, torture and human shields they are also big fans of large scale unprovoked attacks on unsuspecting innocent civilians! Seriously do you think they considered due process before the World Trade Center, Bali or Madrid?

Boo-f***ing-hoo if we scare some terrorists in prison or deprive them of some beauty rest. If that's the price we have to pay to prevent ourselves from getting blown up when we go to work (New York), on vacation (the Aussies in Bali) or get on a train (Madrid), then I am more than willing to live with that.

most ppl (stable and educated people) can naturally turn into evil tormentors even if thought of themselves as sensible people, just because they get involved in this kind of system (this has been scientifically tested).

Of course there's been death during interrogations done by the U.S. Army, although you forgot to mention one way that has actually been documented. Getting your hands cuffed behind your back and then getting suspended by those handcuffs. My source? A newspaper, featuring a grinning Army cadet giving a thumbs up over the Iraqi's corpse. That's not simply 'interrogational methods' as I'm sure they would like to think, but there are national organizations that classify such a hanging as flat out torture.
