The teacher fancies you.
It's a little bit of both.
It's more teacher than anything else with me. If i have a good teacher i will try and give a good effort. If not than i will not give a crap and do nothing.
What an excellent question... I would have to say, having a teacher who is passionate about the subject can make the dreariest subject interesting. I used to hate Physics when I was at school, but when a new teacher explained to me that the science fiction book I was reading has a lot of basis in the subject, my interest was piqued. My favourite subjects were English and History, so having a science added to my bow was a boon. I later went onto university having gotten the required grades in that subject which I probably wouldnt have gotten otherwise.
definatly - if a teacher is bad and puts no effort in and always critisizes your work, you wont enjoy it, wont work as hard, wont get as good at it and may even neglect it for the rest of your life. Conversely there could be a subject that you are naturally bad at where you have a good, encouraging kind teacher, it is quite likely you will enjoy the subject, put more effort in and begin to excell at it. If you get the right teacher with the right student (ie one who is actually naturally gifted with the topic) then the child is bound to succeed.
I'm not denying that some teachers can inspire you to do your best and even help you develop skills, but in my case I excelled at art, music, and later writing because those are things I love to do, they're my hobbies. I was doodling and drawing pictures for kids as early as kindergarten and that had nothing to do with my teacher. If anything, it was because I was encouraged by my parents. In fact, later on some of my teachers discouraged me from my drawing. Some were ART teachers!!! It's a myth to believe that all teachers are effective and competent just as it is to believe all Doctors are intelligent and trustworthy. Some are great exceptions to the rule, if we're lucky we all get to have at least one teacher that was a great, I had a few and made education a hell of a lot easier.
I think if youre good at something you can excel wether or not you have a good teacher or not Keeponb, its the subjects you find a chore that can be made interesting by a great teacher. I always had a natural flair for Sport, Art and English Literature but I would struggle in purely academic subjects like the sciences and mathematics. I had one great teacher in one of the sciences and so inspired me to be at least competent in the subject. To this day I can still remember principles I learned in Physics, but I would struggle to tell you anything I garnered from Algebra or Trigonometry.
I totally agree Steelhamster. Some of the most boring subjects I've ever had were made both more fun, but also interesting by a good teacher. Many subjects can be down right boring in the wrong hands. I lost patience with a few of my Art teachers because they were just a drag.
It helps if your teacher is hot.
